This week, I focused on artists/bands/etc from the second largest city in England, Birmingham. It’s pronounced berm-ING-um, not berm-ing-HAM like in Alabama. The musical history there is rich and it was fun putting this setlist together. It all went off without a hitch!
Here’s the track listing:
Duran Duran – New Moon on Monday
The Beat/English Beat – I Confess
General Public – Tenderness
Fine Young Cannibals – Johnny Come Home
Toyah – Thunder in the Mountains
Dexys Midnight Runners – There, There, My Dear
Au Pairs – We’re So Cool
Deluka – Sleep is Impossible
Editors – No Sound But the Wind
Spunge – Worthwhile Waste of Time
UB40 – If It Happens Again
Johnny Foreigner – With Who, Who and What I’ve Got (Standard Rock)
The Twang – Either Way
Black Sabbath – Iron Man
The Move (ELO) – Do Ya
Electric Light Orchestra – Strange Magic
Wizzard – You Can Dance Your Rock ‘n’ Roll

Swim Deep – Honey (start of the third hour)
What are some of your favorite songs from Birmingham-based artists? What did I leave out?
Do you have ideas for show topics? I’d really love to hear your ideas because eventually (any day now), I’m going to run out of things to talk about out of my feeble brain.
Also, you don’t have to be “local” to listen. We are an internet-based radio station and are licensed to broadcast anywhere in the US, Canada, and the UK. We broadcast out of the Omniverus Studios at Liberty Plaza.
Your next question may be: well, how do we listen? We have you covered on that. The Camel City Radio app is available on both the Apple Play and Google Play stores, so we are compatible with any iOS or Android device. Also, we now have our Alexa Skill. All you have to do is say, “Alexa, play Camel City” and Bob’s your uncle. You don’t even have to say “radio” (because she takes me to some weird Pandora channel). Just “Camel City.”
You can comment here, send an email or call 336-462-8660 and leave a voicemail. We will play your VM on the air (unless you tell us not to).
Listen to The Rose Garden of Doom on Camel City Radio on Saturday mornings at 10a-until. Eugene has The Non-Conformist Cult Radio Show on Friday Nights, 8p-midnight! I started a new Monday feature today called “New Tunes on Monday.” That happens on Mondays at 2p.
There will be no Useless Things Need Love Too – The Radio Show this Sunday because it’s Super B*wl Sunday and no one would listen, not even me. Go Chiefs!!!
Until next time, same blog channel at some blog time…
“No more spanners in the works, all the works been done. Had your face rubbed in the dirt on show for every one. But believe me, if it happens again I’m leaving. If it stays the same I’m gone. When compromise is the song that you sing, it’s been going on too long.” – “If It Happens Again” (UB40)
