Salutations™!!
I was off a few weeks (Super Bowl, launching new podcasts, planning new podcasts, etc.) and I missed ya. But, I came back with a great topic (at least I thought so). MASH ended. Fraggle Rock started. The Challenger Space Shuttle took off for the first time. 1983 was a great year for music. Not only did music find its footing in 1983, I found my love of music, especially pop music, in 1983. I broke out of the KISS-Only jungle I was in and discovered a lot of things I had never heard or heard of. I talked about it on Sunday (and this coming Sunday, too). Here’s my setlist:
Hour #1
Night Ranger – Sister Christian
Huey Lewis and The News – Heart and Soul
Cyndi Lauper – All Through the Night
Culture Club – Karma Chameleon
Lionel Richie – Stuck On You
Quiet Riot – Metal Health (announced but Dio played instead)
Dio – Holy Diver (played Quiet Riot)
Def Leppard – Too Late for Love
Iron Maiden – Flight of Icarus
Ozzy Osbourne – Bark at the Moon
Spandau Ballet – True
Hour #2
Duran Duran – The Reflex
Echo & The Bunnymen – The Cutter
Ministry – Work For Love
Tears for Fears – Pale Shelter
The Fixx – Saved By Zero
KISS – A Million to One
Corey Hart – Sunglasses At Night
Police – Wrapped Around Your Finger
Journey – Send Her My Love
Motley Crue – Shout at the Devil
Yes – Leave It (announced but Elton played)
Elton John – I’m Still Standing (played before the Yes tune)
Start of Hour #3 (for good measure)
John Mellencamp – Crumblin’ Down
Billy Idol – Eyes Without A Face
What are some of your favorite songs from 1983? What did I leave out? Remember next week is “part two.”
Do you have ideas for show topics? I’d really love to hear your ideas because eventually (any day now), I’m going to run out of things to talk about out of my feeble brain.
Also, you don’t have to be “local” to listen. We are an internet-based radio station and are licensed to broadcast anywhere in the US, Canada, and the UK. We broadcast out of the Omniverus Studios at Liberty Plaza.
Your next question may be: well, how do we listen? We have you covered on that. The Camel City Radio app is available on both the Apple Play and Google Play stores, so we are compatible with any iOS or Android device. Also, we now have our Alexa Skill. All you have to do is say, “Alexa, play Camel City” and Bob’s your uncle. You don’t even have to say “radio” (because she takes me to some weird Pandora channel). Just “Camel City.”
You can comment here, send an email or call 336-462-8660 and leave a voicemail. We will play your VM on the air (unless you tell us not to).
Listen to The Rose Garden of Doom on Camel City Radio on Saturday mornings at 10a-until. Eugene has The Non-Conformist Cult Radio Show on Friday Nights, 8p-midnight! I started a new Monday feature today called “New Tunes on Monday.” That happens on Mondays at 2p.
There will be no Useless Things Need Love Too – The Radio Show this Sunday because it’s Super B*wl Sunday and no one would listen, not even me. Go Chiefs!!!
Until next time, same blog channel at some blog time…
Scorp out!
