Salutations™!!
I may have no religion but I lost a god today. I’m not the biggest Van Halen fan in the world but I have always thought that Eddie Van Halen is the greatest guitar player in my lifetime. Some thought him to be a one-trick pony with his two-hand tapping, but those people would be wrong. Sure, it’s been around since Bach’s days but he made it a thing in the modern day. His rhythms were bad arsed, too. He was just amazing. From “Eruption” to “Spanish Fly” to “Little Guitars” to “Cathedral” to “316,” his instrumental solo suites were enough to earn him the “god” status. But, his overall songwriting was what really got people’s attention; he just stood out in those songs. RIP to you Eddie, many happier thoughts and posi-vibes to Wolfie, Janie, Alex and Valerie (yeah, they’ve been divorced a long time but you put that much effort into something for that long, it wears on you). This is from the Live Without A Net video from New Haven, Connecticut. It’s basically all his solos in one spot.
Until tomorrow, rest well, Mr. Van Halen
