Fubo, Hulu, NFL, PlayStation Vue, streaming services, television, TV, YouTube, YouTube TV

Salutations™!!

I mentioned a few weeks back about PlayStation Vue ceasing operations at the end of this month and how I was now in search of a replacement service. playstation-vue-shutting-down

I hear there are services on the horizon that will allow a la carte programming. As of right now, however, I don’t find any that actually do a la carte. As I said we really just watch CNN, ESPN, locals, USA, TNT and NFL Network.

NFL Network is really the outlier. That is on DirecTV but not DirecTV Now or AT&T Now, whatever they’re calling it now. It is on PlayStation Vue, but obviously, that isn’t going to do me any good. It looks like I’ll just have to do without that. Luckily, most football games are available otherwise. Also, I have Verizon and, for now, the NFL games are (mostly) available there.

Everything else is available on just about everything, except Fubo which has no Disney-owned channels, so, ESPN, ABC, Disney, etc. are not available there. So, that’s out.

Since everything is available, on most services, price and simultaneous streams become the most important parts. Sling is confusing with its Orange and Blue and some is available on 2 streams and some with a different amount. And, I don’t think Sling has a DVR feature.

So, to bring it all back to a point (sorry), I narrowed it down to two services that I am already very familiar with. It’s Hulu or YouTube TV.  Hulu is $59.99 a month and you can add “unlimited streams” and the DVR is pretty good. YouTube TV is $49.99 a month with up to six accounts and unlimited DVR. Eugene has talked about YouTube TV and so, for now, I’m giving it a shot. I’ll keep you updated.

You may not even care, Dear Reader, and I get that. Really, I just take my role as an “influencer” or one that has a voice to talk about things that may or may not affect my readers. Thanks for indulging me.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

If it weren’t for football and rasslin’ I’d totally do away with any television at all. I mean television programming. Networks, cable channels and all that have no meaning for me anymore. The BCPF watches one channel 90% of the time and when she isn’t she may watch one other but mostly it’s Netflix and Amazon Prime.

We both watch Hulu together and I watch USA and football.

After that, I am totally an app person on my Amazon Fire TV. Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Vimeo, DC Universe which I have talked about several times in the last few months and now… Disney+. Oh, Disney+. I have mentioned several times on this blog and if you know me in person, you know that I love everything Disney.

On top of that, now that Disney owns Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel and National Geographic, they are darned near perfect for me. I got Disney+ with Hulu and ESPN+ (which who knows when I’d watch much of that?) in one package so it’s really cool to have. I’ve gotten into the Mandalorian, the Behind the Imagineering series, a few NatGeo series and of course the animated features.

Because I’m a glutton for lists, programming and streaks, I have decided to watch all the animated films in order from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Frozen II (I’ll have to wait on the last few, I think). There are a few that I can’t see because they’re not available on Disney+. So far, I’ve missed Make Mine Music and Song of the South, one because it’s not available and the other because there’s a shload of controversy over it (and I’m not sure it’s all warranted). I have them both on DVD so I can see them, but I am trying to watch them all on this awesome new service. I have watched Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi, Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Fun and Fancy Free, Melody Time, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad and Cinderella. That’s since yesterday. Being sick hasn’t been all bad.

I will watch all the Star Wars films from the start on, as well as the MCU in order.

Until tomorrow, and more Disney films later…

Salutations™!!

I have done it for a while now, but I am obsessed with cooking channels on YouTube. Sam the Cooking Guy, Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, Tasty, Mashed, Disney Food Blog, Munchies, Binging with Babish, First We Feast, Food Wishes (with Chef John), Healthy Junk Food, Matt Stonie, Rosanna Pansino, The Domestic Geek, Todd’s Kitchen, and probably more I’ve forgotten.

Cooking has become really interesting to me, even more now that 3B is aspiring to be a chef.

Watching these guys give me inspiration but I don’t do it necessarily for the instruction, as much as technique. We watch a good bit of it together, 3B and I. But, even when he’s not here or in bed, I’ll watch on my own.

I’m including a little bit of Gordan Ramsay’s scrambled egg goodness. Enjoy!

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

I know none of us are thrilled with sponsor plugs. When we read something or watch something or listen to something, if there are ads we try to ignore them, right? If you have a DVR, don’t you just fast forward through the commercials when you think of it? Sometimes I get all the way through the commercial break before I realize I could have TLDNetworkskipped them. Between singing your favorite songs on the radio or with a streaming music service like Pandora or Spotify, aren’t the ads where you spend time talking to your friends or just zone out? Watching Hulu or something on YouTube that doesn’t give you the option to skip through (I know that some YouTube ads do allow a skip) comes on, isn’t that the time to go to the bathroom or make a sandwich or something? Yeah, we, as a society don’t care much for listening to sponsors’ ads.

But, the reality of it is, without their money and/or wares, your favorite music, video and bloggers/podcasters/vloggers wouldn’t be much to see, hear or read because we’d have to do other things like get jobs and such. Not that some of us don’t already have jobs, but I think some people would take the job of communicator less seriously if they weren’t making something from their sponsored work. It’s been a while since I’ve talked about mine, so that’s what I’m going to do, Talk all aspects of them. I know, I know, you’re going to click off, but remember how we provide you the content that we do.Give some consideration to me and them.

Let’s start with The Less Desirables Podcast, since it’s the biggie. I have six sponsors right now: City Beverage, Finnigan’s Wake Irish Pub and Kitchen, King’s Crab Shack and Oyster Bar, a/perture cinema, The Garage and Washington Perk & Provision Company. They make sure that I have materials, content and/or funding to bring you the best that WSNC can get as far as pop culture podcasts go. I pride myself in our production and our content. It’s less a “magazine” show than it is a fun conversation between friends, even if we’ve just met. I couldn’t bring that to you without the six sponsors and sponsors from our past that got us where we are. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to revisit how each one helps us and what they may be able to do to make your life more enjoyable and enriched. Yeah, I said it. Anywhat! Again, I ask that you humor me and give them consideration for what they do for me and the content I bring.

For The Beer Dads Podcast, our presenting sponsor is Small Batch Beer Company. They are located at 241 W 5th Street and provide the Twin City Quarter a fantastic spot to imbibe in some very small batch craft brews and enjoy a good burger, chicken sandwich or pile of nachos. What is a presenting sponsor? Well, it’s basically who makes The Beer Dads possible. It’s what helps to pay the rent. The Beer Dads is presented by Small Batch Beer. 12 taps of their very own goodness, a new food menu and we can promise you won’t be disappointed. Much thanks to them for a) having fantastic brews available and b) for keeping the show going. We can’t tell them how much we appreciate them. Look for a remote The Beer Dads show to be recorded there in the future.

The Man Who Ate the Town food blog (and soon to be vlog and podcast) is also presented by Washington Perk & Provision Company. They have two locations: 228 W Acadia Ave in Washington Park and 301 W 4th Street downtown WSNC. I like to say that they’re more than a convenience store but not quite a grocery store. They do provide groceries. They have Homeland Creamery Dairy products such as cheese and milk. They have bread and things like that. They have plasticware, napkins, toothpicks, dog and cat food, hot sauce, canned items, peanut butter, etc. They have a deli that has some great tasting and great priced sandwiches with daily sandwich specials and sandwiches that are available all day, every day. The serve Wolfie’s Custard. They have a coffee shop that serves Larry’s Beans Coffee. They have biscuits in the morning (chicken, steak, bacon/egg/cheese, sausage, sausage/egg/cheese, etc). They have a wall of beer. It’s a few coolers lined side-by-side but it’s not just convenience store beer fare, they have craft beers and great wines to choose from. Really, it’s your neighborhood corner market that’s there for you all day. The Man Who Ate the Town loves bringing you the food info around town and we are so proud to call Washington Perk & Provision Company our sponsor.

Oddly enough, this blog, the one I do every day, isn’t actually sponsored by anyone, yet. I haven’t pursued that, yet, truthfully. I would like it to be. I like writing for you every day and whilst it doesn’t really cost much to do, it does take time and as we all know, time is money. I’ve gained a pretty good following and readership and I don’t think it’s too much to ask to get something back out of it. But, it has to be the right sponsor. For me and for you, Dear Reader. It has to go along with the theme of the blog. I’ll work on that.

Anywhat. Thank you so much for indulging me here. I hope that some of you made it to here and didn’t just slide over like many people do. I am proud of my sponsors and what they do for me, my properties and my community. They’re all important to you, even if you don’t know it. Thanks again!

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

How Logo Can You Go? or: Photoshop Fail

Illustrator, Logo, Photoshop, Video Games, YouTube

Salutations™!!

My son has a wild idea that he wants to do video game videos. There are some people out there who are making a killing from doing it. At 13, he really knows his games. I don’t understand his choice of games sometimes but I can totally understand his love of them. I, too, was a game geek, but I don’t know that I’d ever say that I was great at them. He’s really into this, so I’m not going to dissuade him from at least exploring his dream. I know what I wanted to be (and in some weird roundabout way, I did it) and if he has an inkling, then I’ll at least let him explore it.

wtfgamersonly

(Photo  ©wtfgamersonly)

So, he has a logo that he and a friend of his designed for his video “career.” They hand drew it on notebook paper so there’s lines through everything. I had him trace it onto copier paper (and it’s now even rougher than it was before). I scanned it and was going to clean it up in Photoshop. That’s when it dawned on me. I don’t know how to do that in Photoshop. I thought I’d look into Illustrator. I know less about Illustrator than I do Photoshop. I can’t formulate the question the way I need to get YouTube to direct me to a tutorial that can help me. I did find a few and they’re on Photoshop CS3 which is like twenty-six versions ago. One of them was even being done on Windows XP. Things are significantly different, now, on all those fronts.

I spent around four hours becoming increasingly frustrated at myself for not knowing more about Photoshop. I can make logos for the podcasts but I have a only a “scratch-the-surface” insight with that program. It’s an in-depth program and while I know what I want it to do, getting it to do it is a completely different matter. I wish I knew more about the prog. I wish I had time to learn more about it. At least, I’d like to learn more of the basics. Really, I’d love to know more about the process, I think. That’s it, if I can figure out more of the “why” something is, what’s it’s called and the process of getting there, it would be a whole lot easier to execute the tasks. Paths, channels, filters, etc. It’s all enough to give you a headache.  Oh, well. I’ll keep trying, I guess. I’ll get it eventually. Wish me luck!

An Appetizer or: Un Apéritif Pour Vous

Salutations™!!

Yep. I feel slightly better today. Thanks for asking, if you did. If you didn’t, oh well, thanks for not asking. I want to talk about something that has been going on for quite awhile. And, not it’s not something I don’t like. It’s something that I do like. It’s mine actually.

I may have posted about this before, but in addition to Tart & Tangy Triad, the food podcast that I produce along with co-hosting with The BCPF and Food Blogger Extraordinaire, Nikki Miller-Ka, we have a companion video called the “Appetizer.” It’s logosupposed to be a short little accompaniment to the full on podcast. The podcast and the video are part of The Less Desirables Network. Now, lately it’s gotten longer and I’m going to do something about that. But, the idea is to talk about things that we don’t talk about on the actual podcast, or at least go into more depth about something in the video that we may only touch on during the show.

Coming soon, it will have its own theme song (as opposed to using the same one as the regular podcast), be more informative and concise. The BCPF will give food history facts and Nikki will probably promote things going on in “Nikki’s World” or from the community. I basically will continue to pull hosting duties as I do already and that I do on the show.  These changes are a little bit away but don’t worry, I’ll keep you informed here. I’m hoping for a complete overhaul within a month or so.  There will probably be a companion video for The Beer Dads coming, as well. For now, head on over to YouTube, peek at the Tart & Tangy Triad Channel and watch a few vids and learn something. I (we) appreciate it!

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
