Salutations™!!

Today is the 36th anniversary of the US version of Sade’s debut album, Diamond Life. Some may not know that Sade is not only the name of the singer (Sade Adu) but also the entire band. There is no more a sultry voice than Sade. I love her. Whew… I love this song, too. And this girl nails it!

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

“Diamond life lover boy, he moves in space with minimum waste and maximum joy. City lights and business nights. When you require streetcar desire for higher heights. No place for beginners or sensitive hearts. The sentiment is left to chance. No place to be ending but somewhere to start.” – “Smooth Operator” (Adu/St. John)

Salutations™!!

Today is the 40th anniversary of Judas Priest’s seventh studio album, Point of Entry. It was the follow-up to British Steel which many consider their breakthrough album. Here’s Stone Sour doing their version of this tune. Enjoy!

“Well, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. You get nothing for nothing: expect it when you’re backseat driving, and your hands ain’t on the wheel. It’s easy to go along with the crowd and find later on that your say ain’t allowed. Oh, that’s the way to find what you’ve been missing.” – “Heading Out to the Highway” (Tipton/Halford/Downing)

Salutations™!!

Today is the 36th anniversary of one of my Top Ten favorite albums of all time, Songs from the Big Chair from Tears for Fears. I love this album. I love everything about this album. I love the cover. I love the songs. I love Roland Orzabal. I love Curt Smith. I love it all. The band I picked to cover this song is a great band. I use their stuff on these vids all the time and they are amazing musicians. The guitarist goes off! Enjoy!

Salutations™!

Today is the 46th anniversary of Led Zeppelin’s sixth studio album, a double, Physical Graffiti. I really enjoy this album. It’s not my favorite Zep album but it’s not my least, either. What I do find interesting is how much of it is rehashed throwaways from previous albums. Especially when I see which are the “throwaways.” This is not one of the throwaways. And, it’s not often that I get to highlight my friends. I have shared the stage with three of these players, all three on the extreme right side of the video. Clay Howard (whom you hear me talk about a lot), Chad Huskey on guitar and Davidson Smith on percussion. It’s a great song, too. Enjoy!

“Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream. Here is the path that led me to that place. Yellow desert stream. My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon. I will return again. Sure as the dust that floats high in June when movin’ through Kashmir.” – “Kashmir” (Bonham/Page/Plant)

Salutations™!!

Yesterday is the 41st anniversary of the debut album by Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark or OMD. Yes, I spelled Manoeuvers correctly. They’re British. I love this synth-pop stuff. It’s just fun. I picked this because it was recorded on my 49th birthday. Enjoy!

I don’t know my steps because I’m doing this in the early afternoon.

Music, Ozzy Osbourne, Video

Salutations™!!

Today is the 35th anniversary of my favorite Ozzy Osbourne album, The Ultimate Sin. Yes, I know it’s not his “best.” I know it’s basically the pariah of all Ozzy albums, but it was my first listen, ever of solo Ozzy. Actually, I didn’t even know that Ozzy was the singer in Black Sabbath when The Road Warriors used to come out to “Iron Man.” I was in a band in WV called Kollosus. I had just learned to play the E string on bass and was learning more. We played “Shot in the Dark” in that band and I remember having to play the B on the A string. Whoo I was venturing out! Anywhat! When I moved here later that year, I got the album and the tabs and learned how much I liked that album and only then did I venture back in the catalog to listen to older Ozzy. It was Tribute that set me on the Ozzy Crazy Train, but this got me out of the station. Enjoy!

Minimal steps today because the weather was crappy.

“Taught by the powers that preach over me, I can hear their empty reasons. I wouldn’t listen, I learned how to fight. I opened up my mind to treason. But just like the wounded, and when it’s too late, they’ll remember, they’ll surrender. Never a care for the people who hate. Underestimate me now.” – “Shot in the Dark” (Soussan/Osbourne)

Salutations™!!

Today is the 37th anniversary of The Smiths’ debut self-titled album. I hated The Smiths when I first heard them. But, I have grown to love them, regardless of Morrissey’s self-loathing disposition. This song wasn’t on the UK version of the vinyl album. It was on the US version and world-wide on cassette and I am guessing CDs. This guy nails it (he’s a fan, he does several Smiths covers). Enjoy!

“Punctured bicycle on a hillside desolate. Will Nature make a man of me yet? When in this charming car, this charming man. Why pamper life’s complexity, when the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat? I would go out tonight but I haven’t got a stitch to wear. This man said, “It’s gruesome that someone so handsome should care.” – “This Charming Man” (Marr/Morrissey)

Salutations™!!

Today is the 50th anniversary of Yes’ third album, The Yes Album. Prog rock at its finest. If you like long-arsed songs, you will like this. This is a composite video and they do a great job of it. Enjoy!

This is reprinted from last year with edits made as needed.

Salutations™!!

Today is the 46th 47th anniversary of KISS. The band started in 1973 but this album came out on February 18, 1974. Only eight months older than its successor, Hotter Than Hell which was only five months before its successor, Dressed To Kill. This isn’t my top KISS album but came in at #3 on my rankings (you can read “Part I” or “Part II” of my ranking list by clicking those links). It had the lion’s share of the spots on the first Alive! album, too (7 of the 16 tracks were from this album).

This week we talk about Symphony – Alive IV on Asylum – Tales From the Devereaux Diaries Podcast and next week we talk about The Millenium Concert but the week after that, we will review this album.

Instead of looking out for some half-good cover version, I’m pulling out one of the most famous videos of this song. It was the version featured in the KISS Xposed video and is with Gene doing the blood thing. It rocks! Enjoy!

Until tomorrow, keep KISSin’!

Eric Clapton, Music, Video

Salutations™!!

Today is the 40th anniversary of Eric Clapton’s Another Ticket album. It was his last on the RSO label as it was absorbed into Polydor soon after. It is no mystery that I am not a Clapton fan. However, I think that goes more to his blues stuff and early 70s stuff. I like a lot of his 80s stuff. This is about the third or fourth best cover version I could find for this. The best one, I would have really loved to have used, because it was a Japanese band in a Japanese club (in Hiroshima) but for whatever reason there is a Confederate flag hanging behind them. I hate that symbol and will do all I can to avoid it. So you get this guy instead. Enjoy!

I did 2886 steps today.
