Salutations!!

Tomorrow, September 30, one of the coolest breweries in WSNC, that would be Hoots Roller Bar and Beer Company, will be unleashing their fantastic Zinzendorf Oktoberfest, the FOURTH annual release of it, and they will be celebrating their fourth anniversary as well. Cool how all that happens at once, right?21740999_10209881300284884_7775695707539999009_o

Well, many of you may and many of you may not know that Hoots is the “presenting sponsor” of The Beer Dads podcast and is the “liquid reward” for The Man Who Walked the Town blog. So, in honor of this celebratory occasion, The Beer Dads will be doing a remotely recorded podcast at Hoots tomorrow starting around 6:30 pm. We’ll be talking with any of the Hoots people we can nail down and we want to talk with patrons, friends and fans of Hoots beer! Well, that and fans and friends of The Beer Dads.

The festivities for Hoots will be from noon until midnight. During the daylight hours, there will be bands playing on the stage and a fantastic BBQ guru serving food with games and other hilarities. And then, as the sun goes down, the night goes on to a DJ and the Bahtmobile food truck! Also, I know there’s a dunking booth during the day and that’s always fun, right? There is tell of some archival Oktoberfest brews from years past that Hoots has had in storage so it will be “vintage!”

So, tomorrow from noon until midnight, come have some great beer, great food, great music, fun games and, oh yeah, say hi to the Beer Dads. Hoots is located at 840 Mill Works Street. There will be several available parking lots up and down Northwest Blvd so don’t be afraid of parking. Come have a grand time!!

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Old Salem, The BCPF, The Man Who Walked the Town, WSNC

Salutations™!!

You’ll notice that this is the second Saturday in a row without a movie review. There will be more to talk about in that regard in the next few weeks and I’ll address the reasoning behind that. But, until then, enjoy this:

Well, the weather is cooling and I’m back out of shape so it’s time to get back on the walking saddle. That makes no sense, but it’s okay. I know what I’m talking about and I guess you probably do, too, Dear Reader. The BCPF and I went walking this morning to try and ease back into the habit. We went to Old Salem for that. I have already written a post for The Man Who Walked the Town. I’m piggybacking that today. You can read the post, HERE.

Martin Luther King Jr, The BCPF, The Man Who Walked the Town

Salutations™!!

I want to start off by saying happy (observed) solar circumnavigational anniversary day to Martin Luther King, Jr. We really could use some of your wisdom right now.

Also, then The BCPF and I finally got to get back out on the walking trail, and in some ways that’s literally, as you’ll see if you read the article from The Man Who Walked the Town. By the way, you can do that HERE.

The Man Who Walked the Town, WSNC

Salutations™!!

We have been walking every weekend. I just haven’t been writing The Man Who Walked the Town blog posts. I got behind a bit. That’s not good, so it’s time to make sure it’s better documented. The latest installment happened in the neighborhood that I live in, Sentry Pointe (I don’t know why we’re considered in that part, but we are, I guess). You can read that post HERE.

Salutations™!!

The BCPF and I got to hang out with PJ3 and his Pilot from The Beer Dads on Friday night. That’s always fun. Good food from Willows, too. Saturday we walked in the cold for The Man Who Walked the Town and then did our eating and coffee drinks. We b0ught a few records and spent the evening at a party in which I ended up being the DJ for the late evening. This morning it was Willow’s again for some brunch and then it was football, all day long. It was a good weekend. My life is good.

Salutations™!!

You know what I need? Yep, another blog. That’s exactly what I need. It’s not like The Man Who Ate the Town or The Man Who Walked the Town or The Beer Dads or Sipping NC: The Art of the Drink or this fantastical time killer that you’re reading right now, needed any help taking up my time. Add that, along with The Less Desirables, TMWATT (podcast), The Beer Dads, Fan Interference, SippingNC (and the others that I just produce) podcasts to the mix and yeah, I’m rolling in free time. *sniff* Yep, smells of sarcasm.TLDNetwork

Well, to tell the truth, the last things that I mentioned, the podcasts, or more specifically, The Less Desirables Podcast Network, is the reason for the latest of these spouting match vehicles. It’s actually called The Less Desirables Podcast Network, too. Yeah, there’s been a Twitter account and a Facebook account for TLD Network for a few years, now (and I’d appreciate if you still subscribed, followed and watch those).

The thing is, if you’ve ever listened to TLD or TBD (and you should have, Dear Reader, I don’t do those for my health, jk), you hear me have to be long-winded about how to find each show. I mention them and it would be easier to say, well, just put ‘.com’ behind each one and you’ll find the one you’re looking for. It would be easier to say but not easier to pull off, because, for one, Sipping NC isn’t a dot com, it’s dot ws (though I have registered the dot com, as well), two The Beer Dads is TheBeerDadsPodcastDotCom, and three, Fan Interference doesn’t even have a website, only Facebook and Twitter accounts, the latter which is very active. But, to go through all that, well, it takes what should be 30-45 seconds and turns it into 90-120 seconds of info.

So, whilst fiddling with a pseudo commercial for TLD to play on Fan Interference yesterday, I wondered to myself, Self… why don’t you just have a directory to catch all this on one page and be done with the long-windedness? And, truthfully, I’d been thinking about that for a while, so I decided to go ahead and do that. The first order was to register the name.

Well, there were a few considerations, details and complications in that. For starters, I didn’t want TheLessDesirablesPodcastNetwork or TheLessDesirablesNetwork dot com. I know attention spans are short these days, no offense, Dear Reader, it’s just true. I also know that even UselessThingsNeedLoveToo, while clever and, to me, funny, it’s a long URL to type in. So, I chose tldnetwork dot com. Well, apparently there’s some other company or person that already has that domain. Okay, well let’s try that dot net. Nope, also taken. After that, people aren’t going to worry about dot org and I’m not a non-profit (not that you have to be). I thought about it dot ws, but instead decided to change it. I could have called it TLDPodcastNetwork but if I’m going that far, then why not the even longer forms that I abandoned prior? Meh. I wanted something easy to type and easy to say, so I chose TLDPodNetwork dot com. Now, yes, I understand it’s only four letters shorter but it’s easier to say and rolls off the tongue easier, lessening the chance of sounding like I’m chewing on marbles. Listen, I have to make do, yeah?

Anywhat! I created a page that now I can direct people to using one common, easy-to-say web address/URL. It can be a directory/landing page for easy access to all the shows at once. It also includes embedded files of each podcasts under posts which correlates to the latest episodes, respectively. It gives a description of each show. It provides a “website” for Fan Interference. It includes Sipping NC: The Art of the Drink even though there’s no episodes released for that, yet. I have essentially killed an entire pile of proverbial stones with one bird (yeah, I know).

It will be easier, now. But, it wasn’t easy getting it going. I did a silly thing with my GoDaddy account and got a website builder, but it wouldn’t let me do what I needed. I couldn’t get that back. It was $12, but with it I got the $14 domain name for free, so I guess I saved $2, anyway? I couldn’t fool with it because I was getting ready to record Fan Interference. I had other work to do yesterday as well.

I realized that my hosting plans for TLD, TBD and Sipping all had multiple websites available and since I don’t have to have server space for this, I added it that way, including a new WordPress account.I did that at 3am this morning (zzz… or the lack thereof). One of the plugins that I use on almost all of my sites was having a glitch and that threw me off all day, today. It essentially kept me from designing my site to its potential and without the plugin I couldn’t tell how it was going to look, so I had to put it off and/or work around it all day. I finally got it set up around 4:45pm this after noon, which is why this post is late. I’m worn out and haven’t done much else other than a phone interview for Piedmont Local Magazine. My brain hurts and my eyes are sore, but I made it.

So, all that said, you can get to all of the podcasts from one place, now. You can do it by visiting HERE. We appreciate your listening. And, please, don’t hear this post as complaining, I absolutely love what I do, I am just verbose and needed to vent on it.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, Dusty Springfield, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, The Clash, The Man Who Walked the Town

Salutations™!!

The last segment of the Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums of All-Time was fantastic and I’m hoping this one will be, too. I’m not going to waste time talking about it, let’s delve, shall we?

#90 – Talking Book by Stevie Wonder. One thing that I have always loved about Stevie, 1talkingbookother than he’s just awesomely funky-n-groovy? That on many of his albums and tracks, he plays most of the instruments himself. Lots of clavinets happening on this album and other great keyboard spots. He plays the drums, synth basses, a bit of everything. That and guest spots from Ray Parker, Jr., Jeff Beck, Deneice Williams, “Buzz” Feiten make this album even more spectacular. Stevie’s use of melody and orchestration fills the cracks and holes (not in quality, just covers the speakers) with aural splendor. The ultra-powerful and urgent, “Superstition” is there and offset by the sweetness of “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” and “You and I” and “You’ve Got It Bad Girl.” There’s range and spread on this album and that’s a great thing. Groove and shuffle, intensity and tenderness, bits of it all. I dug this album and thought it was well composed.

#89 – Dusty in Memphis by Dusty Springfield. Dusty Springfield has such a smooth, silky and sultry voice. It’s standard soul and R&B that breathes sexy life into some serious Carole King and Jerry Goffin music. The couple co-wrote four of the tunes. Randy Newman wrote two. Other writing credits belong to Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, Eddie Hinton, Donnie Fritts, Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman, Michel Legrand, Burt Bacharach, Hal David, John Hurley and Ronnie Wilkins, the latter two co-wrote what was probably her signature song, “Son of a Preacher Man.” That song is one of the sexiest ever, in my opinion and holy smokes! Tony Cogbill is a heck of a bass player. He’s all over the place and that is a good thing! My favorite songs are, of course, “…Preacher…,” “Don’t Forget About Me,” “The Windmills of Your Mind” which reminds me of something from a James Bond film, sexy and dark. I love the gospel-like choir on “No Easy Way Down,” too. 1johnny_cash_at_folsom_prisonThere’s so much power in her music and in these songs it’s easy to get lost in them. This is a fantastic album. I DUG it!

#88 – At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash. Johnny seems to have fun at this show as do the audience members. He messes up a few times and doesn’t let that stop him or slow him down. He entertains and they love it. Cash speaks to the “less desirables,” the down trodden, the working man and common folk; he always did. Energy unleashed, this is rock and roll goodness that’s honest and genuine; at least in the delivery. He’s not afraid to chuckle at things happening in the audience or at himself. He brings June Carter up to do a few songs with him and she sings backup on out. Now, I had to piece this together as I wanted to hear the original track listing as that’s what I’m listening to on this. There was a bunch of other songs that got rid of so I could keep the original in tact. I may go back and listen to the others soon, as I’m sure they’re worth it. I really liked the album. Dug.

#87 – The Wall by Pink Floyd. My favorite Pink Floyd album. For one, because I’m a sucker for concept albums, even if I don’t get the story the first time around. Another, and more importantly, I’d say, is that it was the first Pink Floyd I ever heard. Yes, we chalk it up as 1thewallyet another check on the “I’m from West Virginia and my parents listened to country music” tally of life. Neither of those, by the way are knocks nor mock on the facts. We didn’t have radio stations that played Pink Floyd, or anything like that until around 1981 or 1982. Ma Mère listened to gospel or older pop stuffs like Leslie Gore or folksy stuff like Peter, Paul & Mary. Ma Père listened to country. Tears-in-beer country. Plus, none of my friends listened to Pink Floyd, so I had no exposure, at all. I do remember walking into a record store on Main Street in Welch, WV, looking for KISS’ Unmasked (1980) album and seeing a cardboard cutout of the album cover and Gerald Scarfe posters that were associated with the album. I moved to WSNC, as I’ve said countless times, in 1986 and there was a reissue of “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2” around 1987-88 or so and I bought it on 45. I had just started listening to the local classic rock station and got more familiar with some other Floyd songs. I decided, sometime later, to buy The Wall, but it was in or after 1990 because I didn’t buy my first CD player until December 27, 1989. I did have Delicate Sound of Thunder on cassette (it was released two days after my 18th birthday) and heard three of the songs that way. Anywhat! All that to say, I love the album and with the exception of a song or so (can we say “Bring the Boys Back Home?”). My faves are (all three) “Another Brick in the Wall,” “Goodbye Blue Sky,” “Young Lust,” “Hey You,” “Comfortably Numb” and “Run Like Hell.” I love the album.

1bornintheusa#86 – Born in the U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen. I think this is the first time in a bit, if not the entire list, that I have two albums in a row that I actually own. It may have happened. But, I’m pretty positive that it is the first time that I own two in a row on vinyl. Sadly, I didn’t have time to listen to this on vinyl at home. I’ll try to do a vinyl listen soon, if I have something that is available on it. That’s something that I’ve not done since I’ve started this countdown. It’ll be fun. When I first heard the first single, “Dancing in the Dark,” believe it or not, that was the first time I heard of Bruce Springsteen. Yeah, yeah, I know, but it really was. Chalk it up to my total immersion into KISS and just breaking out of the mold. And, here’s the other thing, I hated it, every bit of it. I don’t know that I heard “Cover Me” (the second single until much later. If I did, I probably turned it off or went out to play or something. I’ve mostly come around to who I used to call Spruce Bedspring over the years. Most of that with the help of my friend Beth who is the biggest Springsteen fan I have ever met or even ever heard of. To me, though, at the time, the title track and to some extent “Dancing…” sounds like he’s just yelling the whole time. I just wanted to shout back “just shut up!” Now, fast forward to now. I don’t know how I feel about “Darlington County” but the rest of the album (if you take into account I like more laid-back and alternative versions of the title track) is fantastic. Of course, my favorite tune (since I asked for it and did it at the VSS Springsteen show) is “I’m on Fire.” It’s a sultry little number. I loved the video, too. “My Hometown” and “Glory Days” are also faves of mine. There are some throwaways, at least to me, such as “Working on the Highway” and the aforementioned “Darlington County.” “Downbound Train” and “I’m Goin’ Down” make up for both of those, though. There were seven singles released on this album. While none of the songs are virtuosity tunes or even particularly intrinsic or complex, that’s not what this album was about it, I don’t think. It was just putting out a good album. This is that. Great even. I really dug it.

#85 – Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin. It’s like being in church, at least what I feel a southern African American church would sound like to be in. It’s almost like heaven (purposely not capitalized) was singing down on its people the whole time you listened to this. There’s some hefty love ambition and ooey-gooeiness, too. That’s good stuff. Now, my question is why does this deserve to be higher than say, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, Modern Sounds in Country & Western Music, Giant Steps, The Bends, At Last! or Stand!? I thought this was a good album, great even, but it’s not better than those. I hear some iconic songs but they’re not so iconic to beat the stuff from those other albums. Top 500? Yes, Top 100? Not to me and just my opinion. Great stuff on this includes: “Chain of Fools,” “People Get Ready,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and “Groovin'” even though there’s not a bad song on the album. And, she co-wrote a couple of the tunes, at that. I dug it.

#84 – I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You by Aretha Franklin. Yep, two in a row from the “queen of soul.” Like Lady Soul and I’m figuring a lot of her stuff, she co-wrote some of the tunes on this album, including “Dr. Feelgood (Love is Serious Business) and no, not the Mötley Crüe version. The song that I figure is most associated with Miss Franklin, “Respect” is on this album, as is “I Never Loved a Man (the Way I Love You)” which I don’t think I ever knew the title of the song, but was well aware of it. It’s in a lot of movies and commercials. One thing I find with her, especially on this album, is how even at this age (she was 24 when she recorded this), she goes between a mighty young thing to sounding like she sounds now at the age of 74. The example of this is “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man.” I like Aretha, I really do. I think she truly is the queen of soul. However, her status and accolades notwithstanding, I just don’t get how this album, like the one before it on 1axisboldaslovethis countdown are any better than most of the albums that were in the top 200-100? Does it deserve to be on this list, absolutely and I dig it, but I still don’t think it’s Top 100 material. Not a knock on the album, I just think some stuff is better. Dug.

#83 – Axis: Bold as Love by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Um… “EXP” was a bit trippy. “Spanish Castle Magic” is heavy and is awesome. “Wait Until Tomorrow” is a fun little ride. I especially like “Little Wing.” I think the bell was a nicely added touch. In “If 6 Was 9” I believe I’m getting a bit of rebellion. Rebellion against the establishment. “White collared conservative flashing down the street. Pointing their plastic finger at me. They’re hoping soon my kind will drop and die. But, I’m gonna wave my freak flag high, high.
Wave on, wave on.” Speak it brother. I really think, though it was more about pushing individualism, not conforming to the status quo. That’s what I get anyway. I find that while some of it is in there, this album is missing a lot of the “Jimi Flair” that I expect with Hendrix albums. That does not mean that there aren’t great songs on the album. It’s just not what I expected. I’ve never been a fan of Hendrix, but was expecting a bit more from it. Now, I like this and think there’s great tunes happening on here. I liked it better than I thought I would. I just think it sounds like they were doing exactly what they set out to do: put something out because they were contractually obligated to do so. I think it was rushed and even though there’s some innovative things on here, it still sounds a bit rushed and the feel fabricated. Still, it was a Hendrix album that I liked. Dug.

#82 – Harvest by Neil Young. Yep. It’s Neil Young. Brilliant songwriter, horrible voice. The orchestrations and instrumentation on this album is out of sight. This was the immediate result after Young left Crosby Stills & Nash. He went country. “A Man Needs a Maid” is the first true bit of genius I get from this album. The first two tunes, “Out on the Weekend” and the title track are fine but “…Maid” is a fantastic song. I could (and did, listen to that a few times). “Heart of Gold” is Neil Young, to me. Crunchy, yet meaty. I like that tune. “Old Man” reminds me of something that CSN would have done but actually sing it better. Not taking away from Young, here. I’m just thinking it could have been done by CSN. There’s more of the fantastic orchestration (performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, by the way) on “There’s a World.” If he had made an album full of stuff like this and “…Maid,” I’d have been searching the world over for the vinyl version. “Alabama” is the precursor (along with “Southern Man” from After the Gold Rush) to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s response in “Sweet Home Alabama.” Even though I don’t really hear the disparaging remarks in the song. I read the lyrics and it seemed there was truth, but I guess no one likes to be told they’re ugly (I know it was more than that, it’s metaphorical). “The Needle and the Damage Done” is a classic, sad and beautiful song, recorded live in January of 1971. All in all, this album is a good one, it’s a good jump from his days in CSN and a good direction for him. I like about 8 of the 10 songs. Good work, Mr. Young. I dug it!

#81 – The Clash by The Clash. This is the UK version of the album. The Clash have a way to make their angst sound fun. There’s 14 songs on this album and I don’t really care anything about any of them. “White Riot” is pretty good, but the rest of it was background as I wrote for The Man Who Walked the Town. It’s just not my bag. I will say, though, that I like The Clash tons more than The Ramones. I will never get that, at all. I really liked The Clash in their later years. The more poppy stuff was, to me, much better than this. Not saying it is bad, just saying it does nothing for me. But, as I said, even through the politics and angst, they have a weird poppy feel and is that reggae I hear in there? A little. Not a bad album, just nothing I care about. Meh.

I got through this segment pretty fast. Still wondering about those Aretha records being this high on the chart, but they are landmark ones for her. Great start of this round and it gradually got me less enthusiastic by the end, but, there’s not a bad album on this segment. Again, we must be in the top 90 with this. Can’t wait to see what the next segment brings.

Salutations™!!

The BCPF and I walked on Saturday, we eventually got 10k but not by 10a. And, as I stated in this blog post from The Man Who Walked the Town, you gotta stretch. I made that mistake. I still hurt, now. We voted early on Saturday, too. Almost two hours in line, but it was worth it. Read more about it HERE. And, don’t forget my sponsors, Omega Sports, Mary’s Gourmet Diner, Atelier on Trade and Hoot’s Roller Bar and Beer Company.

AFAS, Fan Interference, Mary's Gourmet Diner, The Garage, The Less Desirables, The Man Who Walked the Town, WSNC

Salutations™!!

There is a lot of stuff going on around the area that I’m sitting in at the Test Pattern Studios. I’m staring out the front window right now, I took down the curtain for a bit (notice The Garage, The Less Desirables Official Music Sponsor). Allowing the day to get in and recording Fan Interference. For right now, all’s quiet. Since 8:50 this morning until right now (1:40p) the construction crews have been almost non-stop: running concrete saws, cutting rebar, busting concrete and sidewalks and pavement,

unnamed-8

TC (l) & Chris Lea of Fan Interference

yelling at each other, playing grabarse (not really), running minihoe (small trackhoe) and the list goes on. There was a break, but now, it’s on again/off again.

This, little difference from the normal grinding, cutting, pounding, hammering and paving that has been going on across the street at what will be the shiny new AFAS (Arts For Arts Sake) World Headquarters. Don’t hear me wrong. As annoying as the noise is (especially when you’re in the recording business), I understand, know and look so forward to the awesomeness that the building will hold. For one, it will truly be awesome. It will be great to look at and its purpose will be great, too. Secondly, the noise will be over, finally. This day’s noise is in conjunction with the AFAS stuff, but it’s directly in front of my window. Usually, I have a buffer from the concrete block wall on the corner and side. Just difficult to work.

The area is just cluttered with progress right now. Around the whole block (from 7th around to MLK/8th, Trade to Liberty), there’s construction. Mary’s Gourmet Diner (the Official Carbonator of The Man Who Walked the Town) is closed today because of the new office building that’s being put in right next door has the entire part of Trade closed. People tend to lose their marbles and can’t find their way back to her, through the back door. I think the other breakfast joint is open, I’m not sure. That’s throwing a kink in Mary’s making a living. There may be some other things such as power and things that are impacting that, but it’s difficult to run a business, especially a restaurant, when people can’t get to you or the electricity is off.

Parking is also an issue. The parking lot behind the studios are partially blocked and the street, as well. There’s places, you just have to look for them. Just gotta get through the day, I think that part is over this afternoon. Let’s hope. Again, let’s not take this wrong. I, and I’m pretty sure Mary, am excited for the finished product, it’s just difficult to get through the construction. We welcome our new neighbors, just, please… hurry up (I say with a genuine smile)!!

Until tomorrow, when, hopefully, it’s quieter, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

Do you know what today is, Dear Reader? Well, I’m sure you’ve already looked at the subject line, so I can’t hide it or make it a surprise (I’ll come out from behind the couch, now). Today is International Podcast Day! Today, that is September 30, 2016, International Podcast Day.

Now, if you’re wondering why this makes me excited, then I welcome you to my blog. You must be new here if you don’t know why this gets me going. There’s Secretary’s Day, tim-podcastingNational Librarian Day, Be Kind to Lawyers Day, National Bunion Removers’ Day (I made that one up), but none of those have anything to do with me, other than on those days, I hope the people it pertains to have a great one. But, International Podcast Day is a day that celebrates exactly what I do.

Six and a half years ago, I, along with my bud Brian started a little thing we call The Less Desirables. It was intended to be a mere 20 minutes long (the length of the local average commute) to give them a once-a-week dose of pop culture. We added Eugene a year or so into it and Caitlin after Brian moved away to take a major career step. When Eugene had to move on to other things, we added Bruce. Bruce went back to Chi-Town to be with family and we added Danielle. So, now Caitlin, Danielle, a plethora of guest hosts and I have welcomed, collectively, hundreds of guests (that sounds awesome to me) on what has grown to be a two hour show. 346 episodes of it, to be exact. Starting from a meager little bedroom on the ground floor of my house to the upstairs loft to two different studios on Fourth Street, downtown, to Test Pattern Studios on Seventh. We’ve come a long way.

But, it didn’t stop there. I wanted have a whole network of shows. Chad Nance of Camel City Dispatch wanted to do a weekly “news” program and we made that happen, once we moved downtown. That lasted almost 3 years. It wasn’t because the show wasn’t any good, it was the nature of the show and the direction Chad and Carissa (his better half) wanted to take the news organization in general. Chad and I remain good friends, now, and we still work together on various projects.

Ty Collins wanted to do a sports show. A national sports show that fell in the vein of Dan Patrick or other national sports talk shows. We made that happen. It is still going on and we record them on Mondays, generally right after all the sports happens. We call that Fan Interference.

The BCPF and I were eating at a restaurant (that is no longer there) and I posted about it on social media. Another local food blogger, Nikki, and I started a conversation about food and The BCPF said, “that’s your next podcast, right there.” We invited her to meet us a few doors down and we discussed and implemented what became Tart & Tangy Triad. That went on for almost three years. Nikki and I decided to take our food styles and wants and go in different directions, but I think we’re all proud of what we had with that.

I had become friends with Jon who truly introduced to Paul (we had met once and knew each other on FB), and grew tight and on the same page about wanting to be part of something big. The BCPF and their pilots along with us three started hanging out a good bit, together. That grew into a partnership that did two things. One, J&P are now part owners of Such-N-Such Limited, Inc., which owns Such-N-Such Media, which is the production company and owners of The Less Desirables Network and all of its shows. Two, our regular business meetings at Small Batch Beer company led to one of my favorite projects, The Beer Dads, a podcast about three guys who happen to be parents (Jon of 3, Paul of 1 and me of 1) and lovers of beer, so we sit and record our “dad” conversations whilst having a brew (or more). This part of my podcasting history, I consider the most important, other than starting The Less Desirables in the first place, which set all this roller coaster in motion.

This brings me to my (so far) last entry of my podcasting arsenal. At least what I’m directly involved with and responsible for. When Tart & Tangy Triad broke apart, I decided to focus on a food blog that I’d been working on for the last several years, The Man Who Ate the Town, and I’ll admit, sporadically. Once T&TT was done, I really turned it up. I wanted it to be the source for food news in town. Now, I know that it has a ways to go before that can even remotely be said about it and it may never get to that point, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to continue trying. Anywhat! I decided that I was going to put, in one shape or another, that concept into a brand new podcast and while it’s only me, for now, I am going to start incorporating some of the food personalities around town to be guests and have guest spots and segments. It’s growing and becoming somewhat popular, at least in the food industry around town. Check… And, coming soon, a video series (still can be used as a podcast) for The Man Who Walked the Town.

So, since 2010, I have produced 734 episodes of various podcasts and those are only the ones that I was the producer, host or owner or that has been on The Less Desirables Network. Before that, as far back as 2006/2007 I was doing podcasts for a comic book store that I was suckered into being a part of. So I’ve been podcasting for about 10 years. Longer than most, and certainly the most consistent of anyone around here that I can figure. Especially, at this volume. I’ve also produced around 15 episodes for several outside sources.

And that’s what I do, now. I produce. I produce for others. You like podcasts? You want to do a podcast but don’t know what goes into it? Well, fear not! I can help with that. I’m not going to get into the logistics of it because it’s 1000 words or more in and of itself. I’ve already run this one over 1000. But, let’s just say, I am not called the “podfather” around here for nothing. Let me help you. Contact me, we’ll talk.

So… Happy International Podcast Day to all of you. I absolutely LOVE what I do and I appreciate you all for listening to my work. I can’t thank you enough. But, I’ll try. Thank you thank you thank you thank you th… You get the gist. Listen to podcasts, it’s radio on demand! Listen to mine because I need to feed the fam. I’m not afraid to say that, either (wink).

Until tomorrow, same blog (and pod?) channel…
