Sipping NC: The Art of the Drink, studio, The Lab at Industry Hill, The Less Desirables, The Less Desirables Network, WSNC

Salutations™!!

Today, I “officially” reopened The Less Desirables Studios in The Lab at Industry Hill for podcast recordings. Now, that being said I won’t be doing everything in that studio right away. Really, I’m only opening it so I can accommodate the clients that need a place for in-person podcasting. Some of my podcasts, ones that I host, will be done, some from my home, and some from the studio.

I haven’t talked much about this part, but I got my EIDL from the government and I have spent a good bit of it on new equipment, new computers, new processes and soon, a new table from which we do podcasting. I’m also going to reorganize the studio space, creating a new editing room and separate recording space.

The recording space will be in the same room that the podcasts are recorded, now. The editing room will be in a different spot in my suite, which I used to call “my office.” I never have used it as an office as I tended to do everything from the studio. The closest it has come to being an office is that the printer and internet router (thank you X1 Communications) are in there. But, it will be rearranged and used more effectively.

For the third office in the suite, I have to figure out what to use it for. My initial plan was for video. I don’t know about that now. We talked about turning it into a “set” for a revival of Sipping NC: The Art of Drinking but as of now, that whole idea is on permanent hold. The big room, I hope to figure something to do with that, too, but I am less interested in filling that room as it ties the whole thing together.

Bottle 1
Bottle 2
Bottle 3
Bottle 4

Now, speaking of Sipping NC and the “big room,” I went in yesterday to let in the cleaners that I had come in to help me prepare and when I walked in the door, I noticed a mess. It seems the top shelf of my liquor wall that held the bottles and cans Jordan Keiper and I had collected from the libation makers on the SNC show, collapsed and the bottles (save one wine bottle) had toppled to the floor. In doing so, I lost two bottles, a Bedlam Vodka bottle and a Covington Sweet Potato Vodka bottle had both shattered and the alcohol had soaked into the carpet. There were several other bottles that had fallen but none of them broke. Oddly enough, two of the bottles had lost their corked caps. That isn’t the odd part. The odd part is, I never found them. Nowhere. Gone. Disappeared.

I looked around and in the “office” I noticed a bag of ketchup and mustard packets had been gnawed to shreds by a rat or mouse or something. We have had a problem with those in the last little bit (but we have an exterminator that has planted bait traps). My only thought is that perhaps the rodent liked the smell of the alcohol and took them off somewhere to “have a party.” I don’t know, but it’s funny to think of it.

So, that was my adventure yesterday. I have clients scheduled for next week. Yay me! We’ll see where this new adventure takes me. Thanks for indulging me in my story.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

Who has cool landlords? Well, I do. Today when I got to the studio, that’s the Lab at Industry Hill, had left a large box from Dewey’s Bakery in the lobby for my “Lab Partners” and me. A big box of sweet delicious treats. Pastries, eclairs, cream horns, tarts, turnovers, cake squares. I mean, dang!! Many thanks to Bonnie, Mary Beth, Drew and Hank and all the folks at East Coast Capital and Industry Hill for that.

The Sweet Gift from The Lab at Industry Hill

Also, today, when I was recording a podcast for a client, a bird somehow got into the building and was flying, jumping and swooping around in my studio trying to find a way out. This bird finally got out of the studio and we closed the door until we finished the episode. I went into my office and it flew out of there and into the hall. I followed it into the hall and to the other side of the building. It jumped toward the door and I went to the door and it went back down the hall into an “empty” office space and when I got there the bird went back down the hall. I got under the bird and opened the door to the outside and stood out of the way. After about 20 seconds or so, the bird came flying out. I was relieved and I know the bird was.

The Bird in the Studio

I don’t know if it’s good luck, bad luck, no luck or whatever luck for a bird being in my studio, but it was there. I’m still trying to figure out how it got in the building. It all ended well. Well, good sweet treats and a visitor, it was a good day.

Salutations™!!

I was going to tell you that you should come and see me at my booth tomorrow for the Industry Hill Block Party that is happening on 9th Street. Well, I won’t be there. The rain or potential for said rain is keeping the outdoor booths and vendors from happening. The things that were going to go on inside Ramkat, Wiseman Brewing or Winston Junction Market will still happen and some of the bigger things like the main stage, panel discussions and such will move inside, as well. 59832692_2453552568030671_3895484450699476992_n

Here is the official statement for the block party, per Mixxer the organizers of the event:

We have made some changes to this event, due to expected thunderstorms all day tomorrow. We have cancelled [sic] the outdoor portion of the event along 9th St., and Krankies Craft Fair at Mixxer is relocating to The Ramkat. We have moved the panel discussions inside Mixxer. At 1pm we’ll hold a discussion on “The Future of Industry Hill” and at 3pm we’ll have a panel about “Entrepreneurship in Winston-Salem.”

WS Ambassadors 2nd Saturdays is still on, Wherehouse Art Hotel Art Mart will be going strong, and Winston Junction Market will be going from 11am.

The weather isn’t cooperating, but we’re gonna have a great time nonetheless. Please share our posts this evening to help spread word of changes.

So there will still be awesome things and you should go by there! Stay dry. Have fun.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

It’s 11:09p on Wednesday night and I’m writing this from The Less Desirables Studios in The Lab at Industry Hill. I am tired. I am hoarse. I am just getting started… or finished, at least for the night. TLDNetwork

Started with a meeting with one of my awesome clients this morning, finishing up the copy for the DWSP awards’ VO, prepping for and recording Fan Interference, prepping for and recording The Less Desirables and then, because I feel a little tickle in my throat and can’t afford to get sick right now (at least for my voice), I decided to go ahead and do the VO for the awards. So, I just finished those. Now, all I have to do is work on the video and then have the DWSP folks come to approve it and then we are d-o-n-e!

But, back to the TLD Network stuff. That’s right, as I mentioned, it’s a full complement of TLD Network shows this week, culminating with tonight’s TLD. So, because I want you to know about these things, I’m going to give you the links to each show from this week. Here goes:

The Man Who Ate the Town HERE.
The Beer Dads HERE.
Apartment 5B HERE.
Fan Interference HERE.
The Less Desirables HERE.

Plus, you can always go to the TLD Network website HERE.

I’m going home. I will do the video prep for TLD social media tomorrow. I will go to bed. I will talk to you tomorrow.

Until then, same blog channel…
Scorp is tired.

Salutations™!!

Tonight on The Less Desirables, Danielle made her return! We were so glad to have her back. She was witty, relaxed, fun and we all enjoyed our time with her. We also had Ben Burgess of Rock Box Bouldering on the show. He is in the rock climbing gym across Chestnut from our studios at The Lab at Industry Hill. 20190109_203258

We talked about climbing, people who climb, music, life and beer. We heard about Danielle’s time away from the show and we just cut up and goofed off. Just like we always did. So much fun.

We also recorded our first Fan Interference of the year and on our first Wednesday.

You can listen to the TLD episode HERE and the FI episode HERE.

Oh and my posting movie of the week is Broadcast News.

Salutations™!!

Today I did something that I’ve never done before. I had my son, 3B on The Less Desirables. For almost nine years I’ve been doing this show and he’s never been on it. He has been on The Beer Dads for a couple of shows, but never TLD. It was a “year-end/post-Christmas” show and relatively short, but it was still cool. We talked about Christmas, his culinary aspirations, cooking, food, his musical tastes and more. It was just cool having him there for it and talking.  You can hear that episode HERE.20181226_150340.jpg

I also wanted to take a minute to thank all the TLD Network sponsors for a great 2018. Special, very special thanks to Underdog Records, Bull’s Tavern, Finnigan’s Wake, King’s Crab Shack & Oyster Bar, Willow’s Bistro, X1 Communications, Machine Gun Graphics, SOS Investor LLC, Washington Perk & Provision Company, Industry Hill, Dilisio’s Italian Restaurant, The Humblebee Shoppe, Hoot’s Roller Bar & Beer Company, Satornino Group, Old Winston Social Club, and hopefully a few more coming soon. 2018 was awesome. 2019 is going to be even more kick-arse!

Thank you all for listening, too. And, for reading this blog.

Salutations™!!

I have been in The Less Desirables Studios in The Lab at Industry Hill for about six weeks, now. And, the only two problems I had with the space were the fact that I have a six-foot round table in the small podcast room where there should a four-foot table and that there was no AC in my suite but was everywhere else in the building.

TvO5n

What I thought I was going to have to do to cool off in the studio!

I’m happy to say that one of those things have been addressed and I hope the other will be in the next few weeks.

On Monday, the awesome folks at Piedmont Sheet Metal came out and rewired the AC unit and now, I have to actually turn the air up to let it warm up a bit because it can get cold. Now, the suite cools down but the podcast studio is still a bit warm. I guess I need to check the vent to see if anything is blocking it. Nothing is on the outside, but it could be on the inside. There are smaller holes and the holes are directional so that could be part of it, but I really just need to check it out. But, at least the suite is cooler.

I sat in there for several hours on Wednesday, prepping, recording and producing The Less Desirables. And yesterday, I was in there over two hours editing a podcast that I produce and while it was a little warm, it wasn’t unbearable. And, after 3B and I cleared the parking lot from the debris left in the lot, I was sweaty. However, that passed not too far in.

On Wednesday night during the TLD taping, guest host Tracy Bush said she was chilly and wished she had brought a sweater. I don’t really understand that as I don’t even want to wear a coat in winter. I don’t mean I don’t get why she’d want a sweater. I guess I’m saying I can’t empathize because I don’t experience cold like most people. I get cold, don’t get me wrong, but I have a wider tolerance for it, I guess.

I’m hoping to get the table situation worked out in the next week, perhaps the week after. I just want the guests and podcasts’ hosts’ to be comfortable when in my studio. I don’t know what I’ll run into when winter comes, but it’s around the corner so we’ll see when we get there. But, thanks to my landlords and Piedmont Sheet Metal for getting me chilly again!

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Beer, Sipping NC: The Art of Drinking, The Beer Dads, The Lab at Industry Hill, The Less Desirables Network, The Man Who Ate the Town

Salutations™!!

So, I’m not piggybacking The Man Who Ate the Town this week. Well, not exactly. TMWATT podcast is going to take a couple of weeks off. The podcast, not the blog. Not the Instagram account. Not the Facebook page. Those aren’t taking a break. The facts are the food scene is a little slow right now, but worry not, Dear Reader, when “breaking food news” comes along, I’ll be reporting it!TBDBottle.png

But, onto the exciting news! The Beer Dads produced their newest episode tonight. It was the first we have done since March. Lots of changes in our lives and, of course, the new digs, right!? So, to hear the “welcome back” episode, check out the post, HERE.

Fan Interference comes back next week and we’re working on Sipping NC: The Art of Drinking. I hope to get the whole TLD Network back up and running, soon!

And, thank you for reading and listening!

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Life as It is, Power, The Lab at Industry Hill, The Less Desirables, The Less Desirables Network, WSNC

Salutations™!!

Tonight, after finishing up the recording of The Less Desirables podcast, and after the co-hosts and guest had left, I was trying to do all the website updates and RSS feed when the power suddenly went out. I really don’t know what happened with it but it threw me off completely.

BlackBox

The Lab at Industry Hill around 9am

I’m used to doing things a certain way and that routine was definitely broken. My computers stayed up but my hard drives and most importantly, my internet connection went caput so I had nothing to do but shut off things and go home.

In doing so, it threw everything behind and again, my routine was off. So, here I am at almost midnight having done all the stuff I needed to do, most of it from home instead of the studio, so I had to move some things around to be able to make it work. But, it threw me off schedule so that’s all I’m going to write tonight. Tomorrow should be better.

Until tomorrow, keepin’ the lights on…

Salutations™!!

I don’t know if I’ve talked much about this or not, but I know that I have at least mentioned it. We know that I produce podcasts for others and I do one every other Tuesday evening called Apartment 5B. The name is based on the apartment number of Kramer on Seinfeld. A5BLogo

The tagline of the podcast is “Irrational Conversations with the Cool Breezes of Anytown, USA.” To quote the website, the aim is to have fun with the everyday, or at least our everyday. That usually is shared agitation, alcohol appreciation, ridiculous journalism, sports, pop culture – you name it, it’s all there, simultaneously inappropriate and hilarious.

I will say that currently, it is the podcast that I have the most fun on. We’re off the hook, we talk about everything and, truthfully, we can get a little “blue.” Not blue in the X-rated sense but we just say anything we want. Generally, it’s not crude, but we just talk openly. The participants, or “residents” of Apartment 5B are Jeff Evans, Rory and Producer Tim. I’ll let you guess which I am.

There are segments that we do including an episodic “throat punch” which according to The Office‘s Dwight Shrute, “you can Never go wrong with a Throat Punch.” LeBron James is the “Throat Punch Emeritus” which means he gets a proverbial throat punch each week.

We also highlight some odd-ball or hard-to-believe or hard-to-care-about news article from various news outlets. They are legitimate news articles and this episode it was about some dude in Oregon that broke into an “Escape Room” and had to call 9-1-1 because he couldn’t get out. There is more to it than that but you’ll need to listen to hear us spout about it.

We also do a segment called “Back in Time” which talks about pop culture subjects such as music, movies, television and so on. This episode we talked about Billboard’s Top 100 Songs of Summer, all-time. I think we all had a problem with the #1.

And, then on certain weeks, we have a wheel that we spin with a variety of topics and we jump on whatever pops up. The wheel is actually there, too (wink). We didn’t do the wheel this week. That’s because we went a little long. We try to stay right at an hour. It doesn’t always happen but mostly it does.

The podcast has two sponsors right now, Old Winston Social Club and The Satornino Group. And, of course, the show is recorded and produced in The Lab at Industry Hill.

This show isn’t on The Less Desirables Network but it feels like it is. It’s just good fun and it’s entertaining. You should give it a listen. It’s available on most platforms but if you want to hear it, you should just click HERE. When you realize you love it (and you will), subscribe. There are a lot of features that we’re throwing around about adding, so you’ll want to hear those things when they happen.

Thanks for listening and thanks to Jeff and Rory for letting me be part of the show.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
