Today is the 44th anniversary of Supertramp’s Even in the Quietest Moments album. Roger Hodgson is doing this hit with three Berliner siblings. It’s cool. Enjoy!

— “See the man with the lonely eyes. Oh take his hand, you’ll be surprised.” – “Give a Little Bit” (Hodgson)
Today is the 53rd anniversary of Simon & Garfunkel’s most amazing album, Bookends. It’s my favorite of theirs. So many great tunes and, to me, nary a clunker to be found. It was inexplicably ranked at #234 on the RS list that matters and in yet another example of why the new list does NOT matter, it’s absent altogether. Unacceptable. But, the bright side is I never pass up a chance to play a Mike Massé cover. Enjoy!

— “‘Kathy,’ I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh. ‘Michigan seems like a dream to me now.’ It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw. I’ve gone to look for America.” – “America” (Simon)
Today is the 31st anniversary of Bell Biv Devoe’s debut album, Poison. I’ll admit I was a fan of New Edition. I’m a sucker for R&B boy groups, and they were boys. Ronnie, Ricky and Mike were just 16-17 when New Edition released their album with “Cool It Now” and “Mr. Telephone Man.” Bobby went on and did his thing, married arguably (and I would argue it) one of the greatest voices of all time. Ralph went on to have a modest solo career and Johnny came later but did his own thing, too. When Bell Biv Devoe happened, I liked it. Especially this song. The BCPF and I saw BBD at Walt Disney World back in 2013. That same trip we saw Survivor, with both Dave Bickler and Jami Jamison, and .38 Special. Seems like someone else but I can’t think of who. Oh wait! Foreigner. But, anywhat! Here’s a great cover. Enjoy!

— “It’s driving me out of my mind. That’s why it’s hard for me to find. Can’t get it outta my head. Miss her, kiss her, love her, wrong move you’re dead. That girl is poison. Never trust a big butt and smile. That girl is poison poison.” – “Poison” (Straite)
Today is the 37th anniversary of The Cars’ Heartbeat City. It’s my second favorite Cars album after the debut. The BCPF, whose birthday it was yesterday, said this was the first cassette she got for her birthday, which would have been her (mumbles under breath) birthday. August 2019, The Vagabond Saints Society performed a series of shows as a tribute to The Cars. Here, my buddy Patrick Ferguson, a/k/a P-Fug, knocks this tune out. Take it away, P-Fug.

— “Oh well uh, you might think I’m crazy to hang around with you. Or maybe you think I’m lucky to have somethin’ to do. But I think that you’re wild. Inside me is some child.” – “You Might Think” (Ocasek)
Today is the 15th anniversary of David Gilmour’s third solo album, On an Island. I love his voice and his playing. I’m a huge Pink Floyd fan so this is right up my alley. And this version has Crosby and Nash helping him. Enjoy!

— “Remember that night, white steps in the moonlight, they walked here too. Through empty playground, this ghosts town. Children again, on rusting swings getting higher. Sharing a dream, on an island, it felt right.” – “On an Island” (Gilmour)
Today is the 37th anniversary of The Smiths’ debut self-titled album. I hated The Smiths when I first heard them. But, I have grown to love them, regardless of Morrissey’s self-loathing disposition. This song wasn’t on the UK version of the vinyl album. It was on the US version and world-wide on cassette and I am guessing CDs. This guy nails it (he’s a fan, he does several Smiths covers). Enjoy!

— “Punctured bicycle on a hillside desolate. Will Nature make a man of me yet? When in this charming car, this charming man. Why pamper life’s complexity, when the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat? I would go out tonight but I haven’t got a stitch to wear. This man said, “It’s gruesome that someone so handsome should care.” – “This Charming Man” (Marr/Morrissey)
Today is the 54th anniversary of The Byrd’s Younger Than Yesterday album. This song contains one of my all-time favorite tunes, and this is me playing that. A couple of things here. Yes, it’s a Bob Dylan cover. But, like most Bob Dylan songs, I like them way better when someone else does them. This is certainly the case here. I don’t like Dylan’s version but I absolutely love this one. The other thing, I picked this one because the other covers that I found all sounded like arse. This is still a cover of that cover but done by Roger McGuinn was was the one singing it on the album. Enjoy!

— “Crimson flames tied through my ears, rolling high and mighty traps. Pounced with fire on flaming roads, using ideas as my maps. ‘We’ll meet on edges, soon,’ said I, proud ‘neath heated brow. Ah, but I was so much older then, I’m younger than that now.” – “My Back Pages” (Dylan)
Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together album. Somehow not on the RS List, even though there are two other studio albums and one greatest hits from him on that list. Hmmm… Anywhat! Here’s the cover I picked today. I thought about doing the Obama version but that wasn’t a full version. Enjoy!

— “Why somebody, why people break up, turn around and make up, I just can’t see. You’d never do that to me, would you baby? Just being around you is all I see, it’s what I want to do.” – “Let’s Stay Together” (Green/Jackson, Jr./Mitchell)
Today is the 45th anniversary of David Bowie’s Station To Station album. I’m not a huge fan of this era of Bowie. The Thin White Duke thing doesn’t do it for me. But, I like Bowie, so it made it. I am a sucker for looping. I have never tried it and think I’d just fall apart trying it, but I am fascinated by people who can. Enjoy!

— “Don’t let me hear you say life’s taking you nowhere, angel. Come get up, my baby. Run for the shadows, run for the shadows. Run for the shadows in these golden years.” – “Golden Years” (Bowie)
Some sources say that today is the release anniversary of Peter Murphy’s third solo album after leaving Bauhaus, Deep, while others say it’s in December, 1989. Either way, it’s what I want to highlight today. So, let’s go with today being the 31st anniversary of it, yeah? Okay. The album spawned three singles: “The Line Between the Devil’s Teeth (And That Which Cannot Be Repeat)” which has to be one of the longest titles of a released single, ever, “A Strange Kind of Love,” and this one. This one went on to be a pretty big hit for him. I like C-19 created vids, so I went with this. Enjoy!

— “You know the way, it twists and turns, changing color, spinning yarns. You know the way, it leaves you dry. It cuts you up and takes you high. You know the way, it’s painted gold. Is it honey? Is it cold? You know the way, it throws about. It takes you in and spits you out. (Oh…) Cuts you up.” – “Cuts You Up” (Murphy/Statham)
