I’ve had this beer many times at Finnigan’s Wake but I don’t think we’ve had it on The Less Desirables, yet. I know that I love it, it’s robust and just the right amount of chocolate/coffee flavor that you’d want your porter to be. I don’t know if any of the others have tried it but we’ll find out tonight!
Port City Brewing Company was voted Best Small Brewery and Best Small Brewer of the Year at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival. This particular beer won SILVER for best Robust Porter at the same festival. That’s impressive. It’s also good stuff.
On BeerAdvocate it has an “outstanding” score of 90 and an 89 from “the Bros.” On Untappd, it has a 3.74 out of 5 caps rating. I’ve listed it 6 times on Untappd and my score is 5 out of 5. That’s on tap. I’m hoping that the bottled version of this 7.5%ABV brew is just as delicious to me! Caitlin is on assignment this week so she won’t be here (which she hates dark beer anyways) but we’ll see how Kristen Daukas, her cousin Michelle, “Superfan” Damien and Eugene (and whomever else may pop in) like it. I know how I feel, at least for the tap version.
So have you tried it? If not, run by City Beverage at 915 Burke Street in WSNC and grab a sixer and let us know what you think. Follow Eug and me on Untappd, too!
Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
