Salutations™!!

Usually, I use Sundays to give a rundown of The BCPF’s and my weekend activities, but it was Father’s Day and I felt that more important. So let’s use today instead, okay? S’okay…? S’alright.

Friday, we decided that we hadn’t been to Meridian in a few weeks and we needed to jump on in there and have some groovy victuals and libations, just for the S’s & G’s of it! It was Friday and the week was long, let’s do it. We did. And, so did a shload of other folks. We were surrounded by a lot of IZOD shirts and sweater necklaces with people named “Biff” 13450224_10154111509150490_3565001001361978277_nand “Muffy” (there is no evidence to support those were remotely the right names of these people) who drank, ate and talked loudly whilst laughing from only one corner of their mouths. Now, truth be known, I’m making most of that up for effect, but let’s say the truth is, it just wasn’t our crowd. There was some event happening that night as everyone seemed to be staying at the Brookstown Inn right beside the restaurant. We, again, have no evidence to support what that event could be but, the guestimation is that it was about “Governor’s School” or something. Anywhat!

When it was painfully loud enough to have to leave, we bid adieu to Michele and Alli and went down the street to Willow’s, just to have a sangria (well, I did, The BCPF just had wine). Then home to watch a few eps of Mad Men, of which we’re almost finished. Good Friday night, noisy or not.

Saturday, were up and at Mary’s Gourmet Diner, which has become the unofficial “carb loader” for Team The Man Who Walked the Town on our Saturday jaunts. Loaded up on fuel and then walked down to Atelier on Trade, which like Mary’s is the unofficial “caffeinator” of said Team. Then it was a trip to The BCPF’s childhood stomping grounds in the Town and Country Estates neighborhood. You can read about that by reading THIS post. From there, we went to yet another “unofficial” which would be that of unofficial “tap” which is Hoots Roller Bar and Beer Company to have a Strawberry saison.

That night we had a blow out for dinner. We returned to The Katharine (you’ll remember I wrote about it on The Man Who Ate the Town just a few weeks ago, the review is HERE) and had drinks and delicious food which you’ll see pics of on Instagram. That was a great night.

Sunday, I had to wait on the DirecTV peeps to come out and install a new receiver for 3B’s room as his old one just gave up the ghost. Of course, they were late but once the tech got there it was pretty fast. 3B came and once the install was done, we ran out to have a Father’s Day Brunch at Mary’s. Then we ran to Pfafftown to visit The BCPF’s father’s grave so she could have a few minutes with him. Then we headed home to see Ma Père, where we got stuck for a bit working on technology that was trash to begin with (that’s code for TWC’s new and “improved” modem). It wasn’t getting stuck there, just the crapola equipment that I was annoyed with. Always them. I don’t get it.

But, we then took Ma Mère’s Ion Party Kicker to our house, put it outside, put out a few lawn chairs and a blanket and sat there with 3B, The BCPF and moi listening to music through the Kicker via Pandora. We started with some stuff that was too laid back for my tastes and changed to 90s Summer Rock (a compromise with The BCPF). We changed to Joni Mitchell and that lasted several hours. 3B went to the movies with Ma Mère and The BCPF had several beers and a whole bottle of wine just enjoying the beautiful afternoon/evening that it was. We stayed out there until 10:30 or so and watched the almost-full moon rise over the trees. That was truly my favorite part of the weekend. Just relaxing and taking it all in. And, anyone that knows me knows that I hate being outside, but with a little bit of bug spray, it was spectacular. I can’t wait to do it again.

Anyways, Dear Reader, I hope your weekend didn’t suck, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t as great as mine, not that I’m bragging. Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Scorp out!

Salutations™!!

I know none of us are thrilled with sponsor plugs. When we read something or watch something or listen to something, if there are ads we try to ignore them, right? If you have a DVR, don’t you just fast forward through the commercials when you think of it? Sometimes I get all the way through the commercial break before I realize I could have TLDNetworkskipped them. Between singing your favorite songs on the radio or with a streaming music service like Pandora or Spotify, aren’t the ads where you spend time talking to your friends or just zone out? Watching Hulu or something on YouTube that doesn’t give you the option to skip through (I know that some YouTube ads do allow a skip) comes on, isn’t that the time to go to the bathroom or make a sandwich or something? Yeah, we, as a society don’t care much for listening to sponsors’ ads.

But, the reality of it is, without their money and/or wares, your favorite music, video and bloggers/podcasters/vloggers wouldn’t be much to see, hear or read because we’d have to do other things like get jobs and such. Not that some of us don’t already have jobs, but I think some people would take the job of communicator less seriously if they weren’t making something from their sponsored work. It’s been a while since I’ve talked about mine, so that’s what I’m going to do, Talk all aspects of them. I know, I know, you’re going to click off, but remember how we provide you the content that we do.Give some consideration to me and them.

Let’s start with The Less Desirables Podcast, since it’s the biggie. I have six sponsors right now: City Beverage, Finnigan’s Wake Irish Pub and Kitchen, King’s Crab Shack and Oyster Bar, a/perture cinema, The Garage and Washington Perk & Provision Company. They make sure that I have materials, content and/or funding to bring you the best that WSNC can get as far as pop culture podcasts go. I pride myself in our production and our content. It’s less a “magazine” show than it is a fun conversation between friends, even if we’ve just met. I couldn’t bring that to you without the six sponsors and sponsors from our past that got us where we are. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to revisit how each one helps us and what they may be able to do to make your life more enjoyable and enriched. Yeah, I said it. Anywhat! Again, I ask that you humor me and give them consideration for what they do for me and the content I bring.

For The Beer Dads Podcast, our presenting sponsor is Small Batch Beer Company. They are located at 241 W 5th Street and provide the Twin City Quarter a fantastic spot to imbibe in some very small batch craft brews and enjoy a good burger, chicken sandwich or pile of nachos. What is a presenting sponsor? Well, it’s basically who makes The Beer Dads possible. It’s what helps to pay the rent. The Beer Dads is presented by Small Batch Beer. 12 taps of their very own goodness, a new food menu and we can promise you won’t be disappointed. Much thanks to them for a) having fantastic brews available and b) for keeping the show going. We can’t tell them how much we appreciate them. Look for a remote The Beer Dads show to be recorded there in the future.

The Man Who Ate the Town food blog (and soon to be vlog and podcast) is also presented by Washington Perk & Provision Company. They have two locations: 228 W Acadia Ave in Washington Park and 301 W 4th Street downtown WSNC. I like to say that they’re more than a convenience store but not quite a grocery store. They do provide groceries. They have Homeland Creamery Dairy products such as cheese and milk. They have bread and things like that. They have plasticware, napkins, toothpicks, dog and cat food, hot sauce, canned items, peanut butter, etc. They have a deli that has some great tasting and great priced sandwiches with daily sandwich specials and sandwiches that are available all day, every day. The serve Wolfie’s Custard. They have a coffee shop that serves Larry’s Beans Coffee. They have biscuits in the morning (chicken, steak, bacon/egg/cheese, sausage, sausage/egg/cheese, etc). They have a wall of beer. It’s a few coolers lined side-by-side but it’s not just convenience store beer fare, they have craft beers and great wines to choose from. Really, it’s your neighborhood corner market that’s there for you all day. The Man Who Ate the Town loves bringing you the food info around town and we are so proud to call Washington Perk & Provision Company our sponsor.

Oddly enough, this blog, the one I do every day, isn’t actually sponsored by anyone, yet. I haven’t pursued that, yet, truthfully. I would like it to be. I like writing for you every day and whilst it doesn’t really cost much to do, it does take time and as we all know, time is money. I’ve gained a pretty good following and readership and I don’t think it’s too much to ask to get something back out of it. But, it has to be the right sponsor. For me and for you, Dear Reader. It has to go along with the theme of the blog. I’ll work on that.

Anywhat. Thank you so much for indulging me here. I hope that some of you made it to here and didn’t just slide over like many people do. I am proud of my sponsors and what they do for me, my properties and my community. They’re all important to you, even if you don’t know it. Thanks again!

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
Scorp out!
