New Year, The BCPF, Underdog Records

Salutations™!!

You’ll notice that last Sunday I didn’t do a “Sunday” post. Or maybe you didn’t? I had nothing to say, didn’t go to Underdog Records (they were closed), and I was just recovering from the food and frolic that we had for Xmas Weekend. This is really the same but for New Year’s Day. The BCPF made a modified New Year’s meal. Back bacon from the Scottish Gourmet for our “ham,” pinto beans instead of black-eyed peas, complete with onions and a little bit of the back bacon, cornbread, and bok choy and spinach sauteed in garlic and butter. Pardon my photography on this. I was on vacation from doing fancy food pics. Happy new year!!!

Salutations™!!

I hope everyone was safe last night. It’s finally 2022 and we can hope that this year is an amazing one for everyone. Here’s a great song from the Zombies’ Odessey and Oracle album. Let’s hope this is the truth.

2020, 2021, New Year, The BCPF

Salutations™!!

December 31, 2019 held a lot of promise for the new year. 2020. Hindsight and perfect vision and all that. This past year robbed us all of so much. My son saw his senior year fizzle out. No senior prom, no proper graduation, culinary school, no graduation for that either. We lost a lot of people. Now people die everyday, I know this. But, there was so much senseless dying because of a pandemic that could have been handled better from its onset and it ran rampant, mostly unchecked. Well, it was checked but still ran rampant. 2020 sucked. Plain. Simple. Sucked badly. We’re now officially in 2021 and 2020 still sucks.

The BCPF and I watched movies and stopped in the middle to clink champagne glasses and go out to listen to what we thought was fireworks. It turns out there were gunshots all over the city. I guess people were ready to shoot the crap out of 2020. Luckily, no bullets came down near us and really, I’ve not heard of anyone getting hurt, so… okay. It didn’t feel festive, but we have each other and that’s a great thing.

So, to all of you, I hope your new year is better than the last. If last year was okay or good for you, I hope this one is even better. Cheers to you all and happy new year!

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

20200101_000305-01

No caption needed

The BCPF and I hosted our first New Year’s Eve event at our house last night. It was just a small gathering. The BCPF made a French onion pot roast and brie and fig jam pastries and I made my “breakfast deviled eggs.” It was potluck from there, so Beer Dad Jon and his Pilot brought salad stuff and pie and wine. Beer Dad Paul and his Pilot brought wine, potatoes au gratin, and a corn & green bean casserole. Our Jim Young brought a “hot corn” dish made with jalapenos and spices. It had a kick but was delish. 3B and Nephew CRAJ hung out with us long enough to eat. I even put 3B to work in the kitchen for a few minutes.

I played DJ with an “all request line.” Each guest had their own time to make a request and I told them all, “if I don’t have it, I have something comparable.” The only thing I didn’t have was BD Paul’s initial request for Louis Prima. He was satisfied with a little Dean Martin, though. We talked about music, life, fun, beer, food, it was just good.

Then we pulled out the playing cards. We play a little game we call “shitboots.” Yeah, I don’t usually use curse words on this blog but this is the name of it, so there. It’s a game that my brother-in-law had a hand in making up in his college days. I won’t get into the game right now, but it is a load of fun and Celeste, BD Jon’s Pilot, won both games!

We had the ABC feed on the tele when the ball dropped. But, we all agreed, instead of listening to the trainwreck that is always an NYE program (I am looking at you CNN), we continued with music and the sound “off” on the TV. We had a bubbly that was recommended by our pal Frank at Publix and he was spot on. It wasn’t too sweet and it hit the spot. Good stuff.

Hugs, kisses, smiles, promises of a great year. It was a great way to start.

So, my wish to all my readers and all my listeners of the podcasts that I host/produce, the happiest of new years and let’s have a productive, safe and prosperous year in life, work and everything else. Also, in the words of Bill & Ted, “be excellent to each other!”

Salutations™!!

I am really glad that 2018 is over. A fresh new start, now. But, last night, I performed at the Ramkat with The Plaids and I had a ball. I was on stage for every song and was featured in a tune or two. But, my crowning accomplishment last night was when I got to channel my inner-Diana Ross. I’m going to leave you with the video and you can see for yourself. You may have to click a link to see it. If not, well look at my Facebook page.

Salutations™!!

So, it’s a whole new year! 2018 in da house! I hope this one is a great one. It seems like they all get harder to be “good ones,” with our aging. But, still, here’s hoping. We went to Willows and had prime rib and salmon and other things, then we came home and fell asleep on the couch until about 11:45pm or so. So we got to watch the ball drop. Happy-New-Year-Images-2018-300x199

Do you remember when you knew who the people performing on NYE was? And Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve was the only show in town for it? Now, some other channels were just doing regular programming but I kept switching back and forth between Ryan Seacrest and CNN’s atrocious pairing of Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper. It was awkward and uncomfortable. I love me some Don Lemon, though and he was funny.

Seacrest had, once again, Jenny McCarthy with him and, other than her horrible plastic surgery on her face, was a good co-host. I know her face has nothing to do with her hosting abilities, but it was a distraction. It was like a bloated lipped version of the two models that died with Joker smiles in 1989’s Batman. And, jeez, Ciara was downright horrible. Lucy Hale wasn’t bad as hosting the New Orleans part, but the time delay and the fact that she just couldn’t keep from talking made that whole thing awkward, too. I didn’t at all mind Fitz and the Tantrums or Imagine Dragons. I thought they were great. Mariah Carey got to redeem herself after the last debacle she did for one of these things. But, it was okay. I got to kiss my girl at midnight, so I guess that’s what’s important. And, I got to hug 3B, that was great, too.

But, earlier in the night, with the football games going the way they did, I became the 2017 Willows’ Sweep the Leg Fantasy Football Champion! I finished the regular season with a losing record (6-8), but because I had Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Jacksonville Defense, they all finally decided to turn it on the last part of the season so that led to a few victories which put me ahead of the others in my division. It was nerve-wracking and my stomach was in knots. Ben and Antonio didn’t even play and I knew that Jacksonville was going to have a hard time against division rivals Tennesee. So, I put Matthew Stafford in and Martavis Bryant along with the Steelers defense. Steelers were playing the Browns and it was inevitable that they’d do good against them. Cleveland tried, but the Steelers held them off in the end. Anywhat!

During the regular season, The BCPF ran roughshod all over the whole league. She was 10-0 until someone (that lives in the same house with her) finally beat her. She ended up with a 12-2 regular season record. She won the regular season. The divisions (she and I were in two different divisions; her Willows, me Foothills) were torn up after that and the top eight got to play in the playoffs. I beat the first team, then I beat The BCPF (again) and then I beat the winner of my division for the whole thing. He was predicted to win all the way up until about 10 minutes before he didn’t. He was scary, though. Another accolade that I got was I had the highest point win during the season (202) and The BCPF had the “Most Points For” for the regular season (2051.1). We had fun.

In the TLD league that I run… yeah, let’s not talk about that. I finished first in the “consolation bracket.” Let’s just leave that there…

Congrats to me. The prize was almost $400. I’ll take it!
