Salutations™!!

Today, I’m not posting any video. Today, I’m posting about a (gasp! yes another) fundraising effort by the musical folks of WSNC. I’ve talked about Dale Cole and the Virtual Village a few times and they have been on The Less Desirables a few times. DC&VV put together a compilation of area musicians, with much thanks to Steven Jones for putting it together. If you look through the list you will find a few names that you’ve heard me talking about on this blog or have heard on TLD, either live or via the music section.

DCVV

Names like: Clay Howard, Steven Jones, DC&VV, GORyanGO (Matt Weiser, part of VSS and has been a guest on TLD a few years back), Whiskey Foxtrot (guests just last year), Doug Davis (yes, that Doug Davis), Joshua West, Lee and Susan Terry & the Near Strangers (the first live musical artists ever on TLD), Jukebox Rehab (a few months back), Patrick Ferguson, Brad Ward (a friend and member of the TBD Referral Group), Audrey Muck (with her husband Eric, whom I’ve talked about a lot, she was on WFDD, is part of VSS, they owned Augustine’s, has been on TLD, etc), James Vincent Carroll, and #25, a little tune you may have heard from someone named Timothy G Beeman II. You may have heard it a few times because I’ve played it on here a few times. It is the last song that I’ve written, to date and that’s 10 years ago. Wow.

Anywhat! You can listen to all of it for free but I strongly encourage you to purchase the compilation. It’s only $20 and proceeds go to WSNC service industry workers. We all would appreciate it. We are Winston-Salem Strong, Winston Strong, We Not Me, Support Local, We Are All In This Together!! Click here to hear it and purchase it, if you’re so inclined.

Until tomorrow, Winston-Salem Strong!

Salutations™!!

Yesterday, I was part of a video shoot for my pal Clay Howard’s song, “Running Back Again.” We set up a performance stage in an empty warehouse across the street from The Lab at Industry Hill.

The band featured Clay on vocals and rhythm guitar, Davidson Smith on drums, Chad Huskey lead guitar, Joshua West on keyboards and yours truly on bass. The video was directed and shot by my pal Chad Nance and produced by him Carissa. It was just a great time hanging out with my friends playing music, even though we weren’t actually playing music. We played along to a track, for those who don’t know how music videos work.

It was 62ish outside but inside this warehouse, it was probably in the 50s. Everyone complained and bundled up between shots. I thought it felt great, but we know I like it cooler. But, the video should be out in a few weeks to coincide with Clay’s new album release. When it’s released I’ll let you know.

The shot I included was called “Maximum Beeman” by Chad. I say everything is Maximum Beeman.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

This past week was the final week of the MM3AMMC/TLD Tap Takeover. Over the last 15 weeks, that’s right, FIFTEEN!, I’ve heard a lot of groovy tunes. 118, actually. From a return to youth or freedom or straight-forward rock to personal stories or foreign language or  “lyrical vomit” or even several songs about me. I’ve listened to a lot of music. I’ve listened to some awesome musicians, too. Clay, Doug, Jerry, Patrick, Steve, Corky, KG, Josh, Eddie and Anand, thank you all for entertaining me this last 15 weeks. Especially thanks to Doug, Josh, Eddie and Anand for sticking with it until the end.

Before I continue, I’d like to congratulate Doug Davis on his song, “Rivers to Oceans” for being last week’s “featured song.”

A recap of how this has works: So, on Monday morning around 8:30am or so, I would go and listen to the submissions. I looked over the assignment, compare the lyrics and songs to that assignment and then picked the one that I think makes the best representation of the assignment’s rules. To hear all the entrants this week visit the MM3AMMC website HERE.

This week, the assignment was from Josh: “My wife had an awesome suggestion. Write an anthem. Something that would be sung in soccer stadiums, football stadiums and other sporting arenas. Bonus points if you write one for your favorite sporting team.”

The submissions were as follows:

  • Doug Davis – “Reaching for the Sky”
  • Eddie McBride – “Fight!”
  • Joshua West – “Jezabel”
  • Anand Gan – “Rah Rah Sis Boom Bah”

So, there were 4 songs from 4 artists. And the winner was… nah, you don’t get it that easy. I mean, I want you to listen to the whole show, right? So, you need to listen to find out who won. You can do that on The Less Desirables website, on iTunes, Stitcher, TuneIn or  Podcast Addict. Or, I’ll save you the trouble and post it here, I’m good like that. And yes, there may be a reposting of this next Tuesday, you never know.

Salutations™!!

This past Monday ended the twelfth week in Round 13 of TLD/MM3AMMC. Before we continue, I’d like to congratulate both KG Noble and Joshua West on their songs, both named “The Man Who Walked the Town” for being last week’s “featured song.”

A recap of how this works: So, on Monday morning around 8:30am or so, I go and listen to the submissions. Truth be known, I actually try to listen along the way.  But, I really listen at 8:30am. I look over the assignment, compare the lyrics and songs to that assignment a1276169874_10and then pick the one that I think makes the best representation of the assignment’s rules. To hear all the entrants this week visit the MM3AMMC website HERE.

This week, the assignment was from Anand: “Spent a weekend at Zion national park. Amazing. Write a song that incorporates the beauty of nature.”

The submissions are as follows:

  • Patrick Ferguson – “Nature’s Song”
  • Joshua West – “Lost in a Lover’s Arms”
  • Joshua West – “Carolina Skyline”
  • Eddie McBride – “The Animal Song”
  • Anand Gan – “Nature’s Beauty”
  • Doug Davis – “When You Were Young”

So, there were 6 songs from 5 artists. Both KG and Jerry dropped out this week.  And the winner was… nah, you don’t get it that easy. I mean, I want you to listen to the whole show, right? So, you need to listen to find out who won. You can do that on The Less Desirables website, on iTunes, Stitcher, TuneIn or  Podcast Addict. Salutations™!!

This past Monday ended the twelfth week in Round 13 of TLD/MM3AMMC. Before we continue, I’d like to congratulate Patrick Ferguson on his song, “All Washed Away” for being last week’s “featured song.”

A recap of how this works: So, on Monday morning around 8:30am or so, I go and listen to the submissions. Truth be known, I actually try to listen along the way.  But, I really listen at 8:30am. I look over the assignment, compare the lyrics and songs to that assignment and then pick the one that I think makes the best representation of the assignment’s a0683698238_10rules. To hear all the entrants this week visit the MM3AMMC website HERE.

This week, the assignment was from Patrick: “Since Tim Beeman is hand picking his favorite song of the week this round I feel we owe him a favor. TIMBO currently has a blog called “the man who walked the town” where he goes out in the city to random places for a bit of exercise. I feel he needs some motivational music, or a theme song for his Blog. Let’s all attempt to write a song for him called “The Man Who Walked the Town” . Let’s motivate Tim to “Walk On”…. this challenge is open to any style or interpretation. Just write something that will get him going.”

The submissions are as follows:

  • Doug Davis – “The Man Who Walked the Town”
  • Eddie McBride – “The Man Who Walked the Town”
  • Patrick Ferguson – “The Man Who Walked the Town”
  • Joshua West – “The Man Who Walked the Town”
  • Anand Gan – “The Man Who Walked the Town”
  • KG Noble – “The Man Who Walked the Town”
  • Jerry Chapman – “The Man Who Walked the Town”

To say that this is personal to me, well, that’s understatement. I really appreciate Patrick, who has walked with me on a few of my The Man Who Walked the Town journeys, coming up with this assignment.

So, there were 7 songs from 7 artists. Salutations™!!

This past Monday ended the tenth week in Round 13 of TLD/MM3AMMC. Before we continue, I’d like to congratulate Doug Davis on his song, “What Are You Talking About?” for being last week’s “featured song.”

A recap of how this works: So, on Monday morning around 8:30am or so, I go and listen to the submissions. Truth be known, I actually try to listen along the way.  But, I really listen at 8:30am. I look over the assignment, compare the lyrics and songs to that assignment a1507748864_16and then pick the one that I think makes the best representation of the assignment’s rules. To hear all the entrants this week visit the MM3AMMC website HERE.

This week, the assignment was from Jerry: “Since we’re going another round, the song title should have some sort of reference to doing something a 2nd time. The song itself doesn’t necessarily have to be about that, though.”

The submissions are as follows:

  • Doug Davis – “The Next Goodbye”
  • Eddie McBride – “Goodbye and Homeward (the Second Time Around)”
  • Patrick Ferguson – “King of Wasted Dreams”
  • Joshua West – “I Don’t Mind”
  • Anand Gan – “Try a Little Harder Next Time”
  • KG Noble – “Teenage Summers (Do it All Again)”
  • Jerry Chapman – “The Next Time That You Come to Town”

So, there were 7 songs from 7 artists. And the winner was… nah, you don’t get it that easy. I mean, I want you to listen to the whole show, right? So, you need to listen to find out who won. Salutations™!!

This past Monday ended the ninth week in Round 13 of TLD/MM3AMMC. Before we continue, I’d like to congratulate Jerry Chapman on his song, “Flags in the Ground” for being last week’s “featured song.”

A recap of how this works: So, on Monday morning around 8:30am or so, I go and listen to the submissions. Truth be known, I actually try to listen along the way.  But, I really listen at 8:30am. I look over the assignment, compare the lyrics and songs to that assignment and then pick the one that I think makes the best representation of the assignment’s rules. To hear all the entrants this week visit the MM3AMMC website HERE.

This week, the assignment was from Joshua: “After spending time overseas, I think it

Rosetta Stone

Rosetta Stone

would be a cool thing to work in a foreign language into your song. It doesn’t have to be much, but it should work with your rhyme scheme and make sense (or not, if that is your intent). I’m thinking ‘Michelle’ by the Beatles is a great example, where Paul basically repeats the verse in French. But it is up to you. It can be a single phrase, like ‘C’est la vie,’ or ‘Ma Cherie amour,’ to name a few others. If you are fluent (or married to someone who is), you can write as much in another language as you want to! So break out your translation dictionary and good luck!”

The submissions are as follows:

  • Patrick Ferguson – “No Me Gusta”
  • Eddie McBride – “Like Serge and BB”
  • Joshua West – “I Will Be There”
  • Anand Gan – “Buenos Noches from Old San Juan”
  • Doug Davis – “What are You Talking About?”
  • Jerry Chapman – “Watch Out Butterfly”
  • KG Noble – “Dance with Me “

So, there were 7 songs from 7 artists. Clay said he just forgot to do the song, he didn’t make the Monday morning 3am deadline so he’s out. And the winner was… nah, you don’t get it that easy. I mean, I want you to listen to the whole show, right? So, you need to listen to find out who won. You can do that on The Less Desirables website, on iTunes, Stitcher, TuneIn or  Podcast Addict. Salutations™!!

Sorry this is so late!!! This past Monday ended the seventh week in Round 13 of TLD/MM3AMMC. Before we continue, I’d like to congratulate Eddie McBride and Doug Davis on their songs, “Real Country” and “Singer of Love Songs” (respectively) for being last week’s “featured songs.” Eddie was the first to win more than once and Doug got his first feature!

To hear all the entrants this week visit the MM3AMMC website HERE.a1578974944_10

This week, the assignment was from KG: “A lot of modern songs really break things up a lot. Write a song where the verses vary in their rhythm and rhyme schemes. They don’t have to be entirely different but at the very least they shouldn’t all follow exactly the same scheme. The choruses can be the same or different. It’s up to you. Any style.”

The submissions are as follows:

  • Eddie McBride – “Walking on a Thread (Breaking in My Mind)”
  • Joshua West – “It’s in Your Nature (to Leave Me)”
  • Clay Howard – “Too Many”
  • Anand Gan – “Not a Good Day for a Saturday Suicide”
  • Doug Davis – “Running out of Last Calls”
  • Jerry Chapman – “Flags in the Ground”
  • Patrick Ferguson – “Unusual Lovers”
  • KG Noble – “Only the Winners”

So, there were 8 songs from 8 artists. Although Corky had two songs last week, he didn’t make the Monday morning 3am deadline so he’s out. And the winner was… nah, you don’t get it that easy. I mean, I want you to listen to the whole show, right? So, you need to listen to find out who won. You can do that on The Less Desirables website, on iTunes, Stitcher, TuneIn or  Podcast Addict.
