Salutations™!!

Today I did something that I’ve never done before. I had my son, 3B on The Less Desirables. For almost nine years I’ve been doing this show and he’s never been on it. He has been on The Beer Dads for a couple of shows, but never TLD. It was a “year-end/post-Christmas” show and relatively short, but it was still cool. We talked about Christmas, his culinary aspirations, cooking, food, his musical tastes and more. It was just cool having him there for it and talking.  You can hear that episode HERE.20181226_150340.jpg

I also wanted to take a minute to thank all the TLD Network sponsors for a great 2018. Special, very special thanks to Underdog Records, Bull’s Tavern, Finnigan’s Wake, King’s Crab Shack & Oyster Bar, Willow’s Bistro, X1 Communications, Machine Gun Graphics, SOS Investor LLC, Washington Perk & Provision Company, Industry Hill, Dilisio’s Italian Restaurant, The Humblebee Shoppe, Hoot’s Roller Bar & Beer Company, Satornino Group, Old Winston Social Club, and hopefully a few more coming soon. 2018 was awesome. 2019 is going to be even more kick-arse!

Thank you all for listening, too. And, for reading this blog.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

I didn’t record Fan Interference or The Man Who Ate the Town yesterday but we did record The Beer Dads last night. You can go listen to that episode HERE.

Since I didn’t record TMWATT, I do need to remind you of my sponsors, Di Lisio’s Italian Restaurant, where you get the best Italian in town, made with the freshest ingredients and really, the coolest Italians (Tony & Maria) you’ll meet.

Washington Perk & Provision Company is better than a convenience store but not quite a grocery store. I get sandwiches there, made fresh and very affordable. They have Wolfie’s Custard, a nice long beer wall, condiments, napkins, toiletries, Larry’s Beans Coffee and biscuits in the morning.

The Humble Bee Shoppe is your home of scratch-made goodies like cookies, cakes, pastries and muffins. B. McGee wants to challenge your perception of scratch made and give you baked goodness in an experience you’ll not soon forget.

And, tonight we recorded the latest episode of Apartment 5B. We covered a town in Florida that has a weird name that is changing it to something even weirder. We talk about history and birthdays and just have a bunch of NSFW humor. Go give it a listen, won’t you? Do it HERE.

Of course, you can always find any of our shows on The Less Desirables Network by visiting the directory site HERE. We appreciate it, no matter how you listen.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

So, there was no The Man Who Ate the Town podcast today as I was completing putting the puzzle together that is the Such-N-Such Limited/Media studios and offices. I am not going to go into great detail about the studio, yet, because I’m saving that until after we record The Less Desirables tomorrow. But, it will come, I promise. I’m very proud of it and want to share it with you, Dear Reader.

-cake

The Anniversary Cake

But, since we didn’t do a show, I still need to talk to you about our sponsors. So, the Humble Bee Shoppe… did you see the cake that Brittany made for Mes ‘Rents’ anniversary? Man, scratch-made chocolate cake with a chocolate mousse, blackcurrant jam and vanilla bean Swiss meringue buttercream in white and gold and she topped with a peony and added some macarons. It was amazing and Mes ‘Rents and all the guests thought it was amazing! It was! You can find her at 1003 Brookstown Ave. here in town, on her website and on social media.

Di Lisio’s Italian Restaurant is the most delicious and authentic Italian cuisine you’re going to find in town. Tony and Maria do everything in the classic tradition from lasagne and spaghetti to seafood and veal and all else in between. You really have to try it to believe how undeniably awesome this food is. Find them at 301 Brookstown, on their website and on social media.

If you’re downtown and want a great inexpensive lunch option, try Washington Perk’s deli (in the back) counter. How about needing some kombucha or specialty teas? They have those at Washington Perk! How about coffee? They serve Larry’s Beans coffee. And, of course, they have Wolfie’s Custard in about 15 flavors. The Perk is more than a convenience store and not quite a grocery store. Check them out at 301 W 4th Street downtown.

Also, today, I was witness to a biscuit bake-off at the headquarters of Biscuitville in Greensboro. I’ll speak more of that on The Man Who Ate the Town and then piggyback that here, but It was very interesting, even if it doesn’t sound like it would be. It was! Keep a watch for the article and podcast on the experience around Tuesday or so.

Well, that’s all I have today. I hope your day was good. I’m worn out!

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

We didn’t do The Man Who Ate the Town again this week. This time it was Kelly’s turn to miss as she had something she had to take care of. Next week, though!

I do want to say a very special thanks to DiLisio’s Italian Restaurant, Washington Perk and The Humblebee Shoppe for their support of us, as well as Test Pattern Studios.

Something different for today’s post, though. Here is Jeffrey Dean Foster and Karon Click (McKinney) doing “Under Pressure” at the Ramkat’s opening gala with the Vagabond Saints Society. I was the only choir member that was on this song (other than Karon) and I got to make a few cameo appearances in it. Thanks to Gregory Silva for the video!

Salutations™!!

So, I’m going to spare you the whole “it was 16 years ago today at 2:42pm, that my awesome son was unleashed upon this world” story. But, really, that’s what happened. So, instead, I’m going to tell you about the thing that happened today, which I’m sure you can figure out what that is. But, time’s up and I’m going to tell you anyway.

81FWbl7PBiL._SY355_

Yeah, that’s my kid…

Yeah, his mother and I accompanied 3B to the local DMV/Highway Patrol office and watched him and a nice officer drive off in her vehicle. They were gone about 10 minutes at the most and then they came back. I thought, uh oh. That didn’t take too long. That can’t be good. But, the instructor confirmed that she hadn’t been scared by his driving.

3B is a good driver. I still worry about his immaturity but I guess you have to let them grow up, right? I mean Mes ‘Rents gave me room and always hoped that I’d grow up. I don’t think that I ever did, though.

So, yeah, he passed it on his first try. Look out WSNC (and Pinnacle and all points in between).

In all this happening, we didn’t record The Man Who Ate the Town today, but in missing that, I want to give a big shout out to our sponsors anyway. Washington Perk is your downtown purveyor of fine provisions. It’s not a grocery store, no, but it’s better than a convenience store. Sandwiches from the Perk deli counter, a wall of beer and wine, a chip corner, Larry’s Beans coffee and, of course, Wolfie’s Custard. You can find them at 301 W 4th Street in WSNC.

For the best cookies and baked goods in town, much of which is gluten-free and/or vegan, you have to go to The Humble Bee Shoppe located at 1003 Brookstown Ave in WSNC. Brittany makes everything from scratch and as we say, she wants to challenge your perception of scratch-made and give you a baked goodness experience that you’ll never forget!

Di Lisio’s Italian Family Restaurant is my favorite Italian restaurant in town. Tony is my favorite Italian. I’ve never made any bones about that, right? Kelly and The BCPF both agree with me, too. Homemade sauces, delicious seafood and meat options with a variety of pasta to choose from. Di Lisio’s goes beyond lasagne and spaghetti but if that is what you like, you will love Di Lisio’s! They”re located at 301 Brookstown Ave.

Thanks to all our sponsors for everything they do. And, hey! I’ve not received any playlists, yet. Get with it folks! And, watch out for my boy out there on the road.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

So, Kelly and I recorded The Man Who Ate the Town Podcast today and the entire time I was on eggshells. I was constantly waiting for things to go wrong and somethings did. My workflow is completely out of whack. Things are tough all over, over here.

C31Ui5c0_400x400

Protools

High Sierra has completely screwed up everything on my Mac. This is where all the things that I’ve taken up for Mac’s confusion-based existence when people complain about it prove the detractors right and me wrong. The main problem is Protools.

A little background here, I started up my Mac yesterday and went to Chrome. An alert came up and said that Chrome wouldn’t update any longer because the OS on the Mac wasn’t going to be supported any longer. Whoa! I can’t have that (can you hear the sarcasm?)! Okay, so High Sierra has been out for a while, they should have worked out the kinks by now, right? Sure, they should. Well, they may have 10.13.3 but what I downloaded was 10.13.4 and that is a world of hurt.

A lot of stuff in PT (Protools) 12.4, which is the version I was using, wasn’t compatible. What I mean by that is just about everything. So, I go looking all over the web and this update is so new that I can’t find much of anything to help me. I find out that it’s not going to work. So, okay, let me check on updating my version of PT. My sub ran out in 2016 and to update, I had to re-up that subscription. Well, that’s not cheap. $27/month of not cheap.

So, I did that and got PT 12.7. Well, guess what… 12.7 isn’t compatible with High Sierra, either. Well, it is with 10.13.3, but not 10.13.4. I find on the Avid (owners of PT) website that they recommend staying away from the latest release. Well, too late now. I have spent the last two days figuring out workarounds and troubleshooting. It’s been a long road for those two days.

In summary of that, just because I worried that Chrome wouldn’t update, it cost me $300 a year for a sub I didn’t need and two days of work, including money-making jobs. Supposedly, Avid is working on an update. There’s a new version of PT called Protools 2018 and we’ll see if that works. But, what to do in the meantime? Practice on a botched update has become more commonplace for Macs. I hope it doesn’t take too long.

On and to what you came here for. Kelly and I talked our brand new sponsor, Di Lisio’s Italian Restaurant has signed on with us and we’re glad about it. Thank you to Maria and Tony for supporting us. It enabled me to make another purchase which may be my Thursday post, at least for now. We also talked about a few restaurant closings and a few restaurant openings around town.  You can read more and hear that HERE.

Okay, back at it tomorrow.

Until then, same blog channel…

The Farmers’ Market is a big deal. It’s open during the winter months but not outside and this thing tends to just be a better experience when you can be outside. As I said in the podcast, don’t be afraid of ugly food. Ugly food is still delicious food. Heirloom tomatoes aren’t winning beauty contests but they taste so good!

Birthday, DiLisio's, Life as It is, Sister

Salutations™!!

Today is the birthday of someone that is very important to me. So, I’m going to re-purpose part of my blog post from a year ago (it was from 10/12, but you’ll get my point) to start this post. It went like this:

So, I won’t say how old she is, but it’s seven years younger than me and I’ll be 45 in November. She’s my only natural sibling although, as I’ve mentioned we do have a brother. She and I haven’t always gotten along and there were some real rough patches through the years (mainly much img_20161011_082003_processedyounger times) but now we get along great as long as we don’t spend more than a few hours together at a time. That’s not her fault. Well, really it’s not mine, either. I think it’s genetics. We’re each as much “smart arse” as the other and when the two should meet (and really they shouldn’t) it’s like a chemical reaction. So, after a few hours, one of us usually leaves and it lets the reaction go away. It’s like putting the plutonium rods back in the water. Simmer down, now!

None of those things have changed except one: we actually do spend a decent amount of time together, now. Still, it isn’t as much as I’d like. But, isn’t that how life goes – get to a point where you want to spend time together and life and scheduling makes it hard? She and my bro-in-law have started a new biz, she’s subbing in school, she has two teenage boys and the list goes on. She just doesn’t have time for me. That is a complete and utter fabrication. I’m busier than that and my schedule isn’t very convenient to outside activities. Rarely are our two schedules able to cross paths. However, I must say that I am at least thankful that we get what time we do.

As far as not getting along, I think we’re both older (much in her case… just kidding) and tired (definitely in mine) and just want to sit back and enjoy what we got, the time, the experiences, the life, all of it. We’ve not really had an argument in quite a long time and if we have, it mustn’t have been too bad or important because I can’t remember what it is or was. And, I don’t care. I like where we are and I’ll just stick with that. The BCPF and I get to go out with them later this month as they’re going to a wine dinner with us at DiLisio’s. I’m excited about that. I love when we get time with her and the B-I-L. They’re cool to hang with, I say.

So, Sis, as I always say, Happy solar circumnavigational anniversary day, I love you and no matter what words I put down here, it will never, ever be truly indicative of what you mean to me. Hope it’s a great and wonderful one (the next one will be a doozie).

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
