Salutations™!!

The BCPF and I walked on Saturday, we eventually got 10k but not by 10a. And, as I stated in this blog post from The Man Who Walked the Town, you gotta stretch. I made that mistake. I still hurt, now. We voted early on Saturday, too. Almost two hours in line, but it was worth it. Read more about it HERE. And, don’t forget my sponsors, Omega Sports, Mary’s Gourmet Diner, Atelier on Trade and Hoot’s Roller Bar and Beer Company.

Salutations™!!

I apologize this came so late…

So, I talked about not getting to go to Charleston with The Beer Dads family. That’s true, we didn’t. But, that didn’t keep us from having a good time with each other. The weather kept The BCPF and me from walking and doing a lot of other stuff, but we went to eat a late breakfast at Krankie’s and then to Atelier on Trade for coffee. Then home for a bit before we met the other Beer Dads (and Pilots) at The Katharine Brasserie and Bar.

Fig & Arugula Salad from Katharine Brasserie

The whole point of the Charleston trip was going to be seeing the city, eating good food and beverages and just fun fellowship together. Beer Dads Paul and Jon and Pilots were going to show us places we’d not known about and food we’d not tried. But, since we were here and I am The Man Who Ate the Town, I took the turn at introducing them to something they hadn’t had before; neither had been there.

There was steak, salmon, mussels, grouper, veal, cheese, beef tartar and French onion soup. There was a few extra salads on the side as well as good beer, wine and liquors. Things were delicious, elegant and fun. We all had a good time.

When we left there, we went to Paul’s house and had some fantastic brews. They were heavy duty beers at that: Iron Horse Brewery‘s Cozy Sweater Milk Stout, Rye-on-Rye X Sazerac from Boulevard (11.8% ABV) and Berserker Imperial Stout from Midnight Sun Brewing (12.7% ABV).

We talked a little bit of everything, just sitting around and shooting the breeze. When it came down to it, we didn’t get to Charleston but we brought the spirit of the Charleston trip to WSNC and enjoyed ourselves. We are planning to move the Charleston trip to a date in January, I believe.

The BCPF and I went to brunch on Sunday, of course to Mary’s Gourmet Diner and then back to Atelier on Trade for coffee. Then home to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers and see my fantasy football team get close to a win (still waiting for the final results – let’s go Greg Olsen). It was a good weekend, Staycation and all.

Here’s hoping for a good week. For me and for you!

Salutations™!!

The BCPF and I got back in the swing of things (or tried to) with The Man Who Walked the Town‘s journeys. It wasn’t easy nor was it complete. We ended up with less than 10,000 steps.

But, we weren’t trying for that yesterday. We hit Mary’s Gourmet Diner, Atelier on Trade and Hoots Roller Bar and Beer Company on our journey and it was made easier to do and keep up with, thanks to the help of my walking shoes and Garmin Vivofit 3 from Omega Sports! We then ate that night at West End Cafe. Good stuff. Bad day for me in football both fantasy and real life. But, I’ll survive.

Salutations™!!

Last Friday, I gave up the ghost on the nearly-cryptic news that we had made our move of The Less Desirables Studios to the new Test Pattern Studios. I, along with Jon and Paul, The Beer Dads, moved all the big stuff and then 3B and I moved the last essentials before setting up in the new digs. We left some stuff there for a bit whilst getting everything else figured out. Today, however, 3B and I went and cleared the last of stuff that I was taking away from the old space on Fourth Street and did a little cleaning before turning out the lights one last time.

It was a bittersweet moment, really. I owe a lot to that space. When we were doing The Less Desirables out of my bedroom, I had gained a little recognition for what I do, but I wasn’t in it, doing it. I was just figuratively tiptoeing around what I was doing. No one really knew what podcasting was (and there are plenty who still do not) and it was my job to get the word out there. I did so, also, with the help of sponsors that I gained along the way of being in that space: City Beverage, a/perture cinema, Finnigan’s Wake, King’s Crab Shack, The Garage and Washington Perk for TLD; Washington Perk for The Man Who Ate the Town; Omega Sports, Mary’s Gourmet Diner, Atelier on Trade and Hoots Roller Bar & Beer Company for The Man Who Walked the Town and Hoots for TBD.

Before...
Before…
...After
…After

Making that move put me in the heart of the downtown of the city that I love and the city that I try to do my best to promote within about. I was there and in the middle of it. Listenership of the show grew. People started to know who I was for what it is that I do. That was in the first studio outside of the house. Same building but different spot, but still, I consider them both as one, just a different room

Moving to that spot also allowed me to do a few other things that I had wanted to happen: to record audiobooks, to do vlogging and perhaps the most important part – create a network of podcasts. That’s exactly what I did, all of it. All because I was able to be where I feel I was supposed to be. Some of the shows have come and gone but some are always right there. Camel City Dispatch News Hour (then Electric Camel Pod, now on permanent hiatus), Fan Interference, Tart & Tangy Triad (now defunct), The Beer Dads and now The Man Who Ate the Town and the soon-to-be blog/vlog/podcast, The Man Who Walked the Town.

However, time passed and we outgrew the space. That and the fact that I needed cell phone service, hated having 3 different keys  to go through about six doors to get to the studio, had to have a separate key and walk halfway around the building to get to and use the restroom and it was a mite scary place to be for people not used to it, especially women. All that, though, it still served me, and its purpose well. Now, it’s time to move on and so I have. Goodbye old friend, it’s been nice.

Salutations™!!

After a long week, The BCPF and I both decided it was good to do minimal stuffs. We went to dinner at Mission Pizza and then just went home. Watched some Frasier and went to bed. Early to rise, although I didn’t sleep very well or much.

We walked our “10k by 10a” and had some Mary’s Gourmet Diner and Atelier on Trade.12193884_10156170070610058_1133490012936724568_n After fulfilling a shot list, we headed to Hoots Roller Bar and Beer Company and had our “liquid reward” and then ran to Krispy Kreme to get some donuts to take with us to our pals: Jon of The Beer Dads and his Pilot. Also joining us, TBD Paul and his Pilot. We sat around, drank a few beers, ate some great Mexi-based snacks and wonderful fellowship. It was so wonderful that I believe we all forgot to take a picture of it. I was planning on putting that here, but oh well. Other than the walk we did not much of anything other than relaxation and great times with friends. I hope your weekend was fantabulous.

Salutations™!!

Whew! I am one tired mofo today. Yesterday was a beast! I good beast, but a beast, just the same. Been a long time since I’ve pulled a day like that and as I’m an older gent, now, it’s not something I can just jump into. I should have worked up to it, but it is what it is. What is it? Well, I’ll explain.

The BCPF and I started off by doing the “10k by 10a” that we have decided we’re determined to do. I’ll talk more about that in a The Man Who Walked the Town blog post so I won’t go a lot into it today. But, we did do it (exactly by 10am) and it was a rough one, but, again, we did it. We did our food (Mary’s), coffee (Atelier) and beer (Hoots) stuffs and then went home.

Then, after a shower, we went to RayLen Vineyards and participated in the Vagabond Saints Society: A Night with Talking Heads. Hung with some of my best musical buds, performed three tunes and had a great time. Then we left and went directly to Finnigan’s Wake (Official Emerald Isle of The Less Desirables) and played a couple of sets with my Threadbare Trio comrade, Clay Howard.

So, up at 6:30a and non-stop until 1:45a this morning. Ate once, really, and am feeling it today. My feet and ankles are screaming at me but, hey, I’ll live and deal. Here’s hoping your Sunday is fantastic!

Salutations™!!

Yesterday was a huge walking day for me, but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to read about that. I’m talking two other things, briefly, in this Silent Sunday.

Yesterday afternoon into evening, The BCPF and I double dated with my sister and bro-in-law. We’d been talking a while about how downtown WSNC has changed in the last few years and for Christmas, we gave them a “night on the town” with us to show them13614986_10154161432195490_3773797020575523965_n what is going on downtown and treat them to dinner at one of our “spots.” They met us at our house at 4pm and we went and parked in front of Mary’s Gourmet Diner (the “carb loader” of The Man Who Walked the Town) and took them down Trade Street showing them our stomp as well as showing the place where the new The Less Desirables studio will be. We showed them The Garage (Official Music Sponsor of The Less Desirables) and Finnigan’s Wake (Official Emerald Isle of TLD). We did go over to Artivity on the Green and showed that off. We stopped in at Atelier on Trade (the caffeinator of TMWWTT) and Mast General Store and let them look around.

We went down to Fourth and walked them around more places of interest like Washington Perk and Provision Company (Official Provision Company of TLD) and a/perture cinema (Official Movie Sponsor of TLD) and took them down to where the studio is currently. Walked by Small Batch Beer and back to the car. We drove them around showing them some neighborhoods and where Hoots Roller Bar & Beer Company (the “liquid reward” sponsor of TMWWTT and something else that comes out tomorrow… I’m such a tease) and The Porch are and showed them Bailey Park. We then went and had dinner at Willow’s Bistro where Chef Travis Myers made us a wonderful dinner. And, she ate ground meat outside of her house (or Notre Mère’s place) for the first time in about 21 years. I felt I accomplished something. We had a wondermous time. At least The BCPF and I did. They seemed to as well. We agreed we’d have to do that again.

The other thing I wanted to mention is today is Second Sunday on Fourth for July. Come see Michael Nau with Silver Sedans as we close down Fourth between Cherry and Marshall with plenty of family activities, food and fun. We frolic and aren’t afraid to admit it!

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Atelier on Trade, Chad Nance, Hoots Roller Bar, Mary's Gourmet Diner, Omega Sports, The BCPF, The Man Who Walked the Town, WSNC

Salutations™!!

The alarm went off at 5:20am. Ugh. I didn’t sleep well last night, even though I was in bed by 11:20pm. I woke up at 2:59am with what I can only figure was heartburn. I don’t have heartburn often so I am guessing. Had a hard time going back to sleep, but I did. Then it was the alarm.

I don’t usually get up this early but this morning, well I did. Showered, shaved and dressed. I had to be downtown at 6am. I was there at 6:04am. Luckily, the person I was meeting, Chad Nance, was later than me by about 3 minutes. What in the honey-baked Hades were we doing up so early? Well, Dear Reader, I’ll tell you…

Chad and I were working on a project. A project that I’ve been talking about for a while, now. All my talk about getting sponsorships from Omega Sports, Mary’s Gourmet Diner, Atelier on Trade and Hoots Roller Bar & Beer Company, is finally going to pay off for them (and me). Chad and I were filming the intro to the web video series The Man Who Walked the Town. So, once Chad has it edited down to fit the intro VO/music that I made, that will be the final piece; the last element needed.

My office, pretty much every day… ©alpha graphics

It was short and chopped up walks but I was sweating and had over 7000 steps before 8am. That’s not bad, huh? That was 7x the steps I took all day yesterday. Well, almost. I had about 1500 or so when it was all said and done. Okay, so it was 4x and some change, but still… I should have 10,000 before the day is up and I plan doing it all again tomorrow, if The BCPF is up to it. She’s a little under the weather today. But, it’s supposed to be a sweltering day tomorrow so we’re going to get up early. We’ll probably do the walk before we go to Mary’s and Atelier. Let that be our early reward and then head to Hoot’s afterwards for the “hop pops,” right?

Anywhat! I’m excited about the video series almost ready to go. I’ll be asking for recommendations and requests and I’ll be recruiting people to walk with me/us (plus The BCPF) to add to the enjoyment of walking  and exploring all this town has to offer. I’ll keep you posted as we get nearer! Get to steppin’! (as The Man Who Walked the Town would say).

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

This has been a great holiday weekend. We’ve still one more day to go, too. That’s always fun. I love three day weekends. I especially like when I don’t have to go in on Monday (sometimes we still do podcasts on holiday Mondays), although, I never complain because I love what I do. I truly do love it.

We started Friday with The BCPF getting home before 5pm. That never happens. We went to celebrate by eating at Willow’s Bistro, one of our faves. We came home and watched a little Mad Men before heading off to bed. We got up Saturday and did our walking thing in West 13508907_10154143762450490_9046315447870418874_nSalem and you know that included Omega Sports, Mary’s Gourmet Diner, Atelier on Trade and Hoots Roller Bar & Beer Company. You can read about that HERE. Came home watched more Mad Men. Grabbed dinner at The Porch and came home and watched the last episode of Mad Men. That’s right, we finished it. We’ve not decided on the next series to go headfirst into, just yet, but it’s The BCPF’s turn, so we’ll see. I’ll keep you posted, you know I will. Anywhat! I started getting tired. Walking all those steps and having a sinus problem will do that to you and like an old man, was in bed before 11pm on a Saturday night. I slept for 11 hours! That rarely happens. I can count on two hands how many times in my entire 45 years that is has ever happened. I guess I just needed it.

Today’s like Saturday Redux so I’m getting off here to enjoy it! Talk to you tomorrow, same blog channel…
