Tonight, we had Jessica and Matt Judson from Thirsty Buffalo Beverage Catering. We had three really great beverages that Matt made for us. They do everything beverage from providing a bar tender all the way to a mobile bar with the bar tenders. New things are in the pipeline for them. You can listen to the episode here.

Tomorrow is the 44th anniversary of one of my favorite KISS albums and the first one I ever owned. That album is Love Gun. The sixth studio album from MY Glam Four, it has several concert staples, especially at that time. The title track and “Christine Sixteen” and when Ace was in the band, “Shock Me.” And, I sat and looked at that Ken Kelly cover for long periods of time. If you search back for June 30 on this blog, you’ll find what I’ve written in the past.

— “I remember the day that we met. I needed someone, you needed someone too, yeah. Spend time takin’ all you could get. Givin’ yourself was one thing, you never could do. You played with my heart, played with my head. I got to laugh when I think of the things you said,” – “I Stole Your Love” (Stanley)
Today on The Man Who Ate the Town, I flew solo. Ray had something he needed to take care of and I didn’t ask anyone else to come in to help. I talked about Peach Brothers’ peaches and the dishes I made with those peaches. Alma Mexicana, places closed for the week (as is a usual thing for this holiday week), and much more. You can hear that here.
We didn’t do The Beer Dads this week.

No, Dear Reader, you’re not reading that incorrectly, the date is for last Saturday. The BCPF and I didn’t go to Underdog Records yesterday as we had some errands to run that kept us from our favorite candy store. But, because last Sunday was Father’s Day and Monday was my ‘Rents’ anniversary and Tuesday was making up for that and blah blah blah… I didn’t post last week’s haul at all. So, I’ll do that this week instead. So here we go:
Of Montreal – Aureate Gloom — Neither of us knew anything about this band other than 1) they were from Athens, Georgia, like R.E.M. and 2) they were of relevance to other bands that she likes and 3) part of the Elephant 6 Collective (in company with Neutral Milk Hotel, Circulatory System, Beulah, and more. These are things that she likes and wants to get to know more about. Blue Marble. Packaged in a gatefold sleeve. Includes an 18″ x 24″ poster and a code to download an mp3 version of the album. Blue/white marketing sticker on jacket. New.
Crowded House – Dreamers Are Waiting — This didn’t sound like Crowded House of old, but that’s okay. It’s still pretty righteous. In this band, Neil Finn’s kids, Liam (guitar) and Elroy (drums) join him and original Crowded House bassist, Nick Seymour. I believe Liam and Elroy’s mum, Neil’s wife Sharon sings a little on here, too. It’s a family affair! New.
Yes – Time And A Word — The second album from Yes. I’m trying to get my Yes discography collection up and as complete as possible. Reissue, 180gr. New.
Jeffrey Dean Foster – I’m Starting To Bleed — My pal and stage sharer, Jeff Foster for the Record Store Day “regional” selections that they put out. I haven’t opened it yet. Proceeds go to Shalom Project which is a local non-profit running several programs to assist our neighbors in need. New.
I also got My Attention Span (my friend Tony Dagnall)’s long-awaited album, …There Abouts but it isn’t in Discogs, yet. I haven’t had time to put it in and it’s a limited run, I believe. So, I will get to it soon. Perhaps I’ll write a blog post about it soon. It is a truly wonderful album. New.
Madonna – True Blue — This album was big the year I moved to WSNC. A lot of great tunes on this and I’m not afraid or ashamed to say that. “Live to Tell,” “Papa Don’t Preach,” the title track, “Open Your Heart,” “La Isla Bonita,” and so on. This is a club version in VG+ condition.
So, I don’t like missing weeks at Underdog Records, so, hopefully next week we get back to where we love to be! RSD drop 2 is coming in a couple of weeks, so check out the website to find what you may want from that. Watch the Underdog Records social media to see what Jonathan has just gotten in and is putting up for purchase. That could be new or used stuff. It could also be stereo equipment. Don’t forget about that. You can purchase new vinyl 24/7 by visiting the Underdog Records website.
I use Discogs to track my collection and you should, too!
Until tomorrow, keep spinnin’… Scorp out!
— “Tropical the island breeze, all of nature wild and free. This is where I long to be, La Isla Bonita. And when the samba played, the sun would set so high. Ring through my ears and sting my eyes, your Spanish lullaby.” – “La Isla Bonita” (Madonna/Leonard/Gaitsch)
Today is the 47th anniversary of Bad Company’s self-titled debut album. It has a lot of great songs but why not do my favorite? I mean, after all it is my fav-o-rite tune from the band. So, enjoy!

— “Rebel souls, deserters we are called. Chose a gun and threw away the song. Now these towns, they all know our name. Six-gun sound is our claim to fame. I can hear them say: Bad company and I won’t deny. Bad, bad company ’til the day I die. ‘Til the day I die.” – “Bad Company” (Rodgers/Kirke)
Tonight, The BCPF and I were able to get together with The Joneses, The Lowders, The Verners, and “Our Jim” Young at one of my favorite restaurants in town, Diamondback Grill.
We have all spent time together in our yard, socially distanced, but not in a restaurant (at least not all of us) since before the pandemic. Last night was amazing. A lot of laughter. A lot of catching up. A lot of great beverages. A lot of great food. Dean, our server was amazing. Special thanks to Kimberly and Murphy Gregg for having such a great restaurant and for taking such good care of us. Our first outing was a success!! There will be plenty more!
From bottom clockwise: Paden, Stacy, Paul, Susan, Jon, Me, The BCPF, Celeste, Jim.

Tonight on Asylum – Tales from the Devereaux Diaries Podcast, the Kousins talked about their Top 10 KISS album opening tracks. The stipulation was that it could only be from studio albums and the four 1978 solo albums. No live albums. No compilation albums. Our regular listeners, Eugene B. Sims (sorry, the AWARD-WINNING Eugene B. Sims), Nick Provenzano, and of course, our main-most-man, Roadie Ray, actually left their lists with me and we discussed theirs, as well. I had fun with this assignment. You can listen to this episode here.
Sorry about all the piggybacking lately. Well, mostly I am. I hope in the next week to introduce a new podcast to you. If things go well, it will be a daily podcast. It may eventually be a weekly one, but I want to shoot high. If you read this blog often, the name of the podcast will be quite familiar to you. But, I’ll talk more about that later.

Tonight on The Less Desirables podcast, we talked with Beaker (real name Courtney) about being a makeup artist breaking into theatre, film, opera, television, and more. We also talk about her being a student at UNCSA, music, life, and a bunch of other stuff. She was fun. A sweet, funny, human indeed. You can hear that episode here.

Since yesterday was my parents’ anniversary and my anniversary for being in WSNC, I didn’t get to piggyback the podcasts.
On The Man Who Ate the Town, Ray and I talked with Chef Eric Brownlee of The Katharine Brasserie and Bar about coming to WSNC, his French-style cooking techniques, his plans for the Katharine’s menu and more. Cloverdale Kitchen closed and a new restaurant called District 924 opened just south of downtown.
On The Beer Dads, the Dads went through what we call the “soundtracks of our lives.” We talked about music that meant something to us at various points in our lives and how we may feel about those things now. Our tastes may have changed. What was a favorite at one time may not be now and vice versa.
Today is my parents’ 53rd wedding anniversary. On the flipside, today is also the 35th anniversary of us moving from WV to WSNC. So, today is my “Tarheel” day. I hate that term, “Tarheel.” But, whatever. Happy happy to my ‘Rents and to all of us former “hillbillies.”
