Salutations™!!

So, yesterday we actually pull the smallest haul ever, for us, from Underdog Records. It’s the end of the month and funds are tight so we looked through the $1 bin and found three records that we wanted and brought them home. Each surprisingly was in VG and dare I say VG+ condition even though none of the three had inner sleeves. Here’s what we got:

Attention_Shoppers!

©Capitol Records

  • Maurice Ravel – Maurice Ravel Plays Ravel — We find that Sundays are good classical/easy listening days.
  • Starz  – Attention Shoppers! — If you’ll remember, Dear Reader, in April 2017 I reviewed this album as part of the Eugeology series from Eugene. I loved the record and now, I have it on vinyl. MMmm yeah!
  • Andy Williams – The Andy Williams Christmas Album — “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” is one of my favorite Christmas songs and Andy’s version is my favorite. It just sings nostalgic Christmas to me.

That’s it! There were plenty of good things that had just come out or was in the “freshly used” bins but we stuck with a minimalist approach. Don’t forget that Record Store Day is on April 13 and the list is long! Underdog Records will be stocking nearly the entire list (according to availability as some are limited quantities). You can see the entire list HERE. Listen to each new episode of The Less Desirables to hear the TLD/UR special of the week. And once, we get our RSD titles, we’ll throw them on Discogs and into our collection!

Until tomorrow, keep spinning!

Sounds Like Saturday, Supertramp

Salutations™!!

Still recovering from the vocal calisthenics? Yeah, me too. Well, yesterday was the 40th anniversary of the release of Breakfast In America from Supertramp. I don’t like how she seems distant and unenthused but her tone, pitch and range are great. So, enjoy!

animation, Voice-Over

Salutations™!!

Today I submitted audition files for about 12 voice jobs. Each, for animation and characters. Supposedly, I got a few of them. I just have to change a few things. But, let me tell you after 30-ish takes with a rasp, whisper, higher registered character voices, accents and more, that take a real toll on your voice. shure_mikrofon_55s

The BCPF got home and I told her I was exhausted. Not physically, but vocally.

I realized when I was coming home from the studio when I tried to sing along to something on the radio, that my voice was raising its proverbial middle finger at me. It wasn’t very happy with me. It wasn’t completely unhappy, but I had really worked it. It will be better tomorrow. That’s a lot of “its.”

I’ll keep you up with any news on what’s going on with the auditions. I don’t know if any of them pay, probably not, but it was more about doing the auditions than anything else. I need to get over not sending them when I am totally capable. We’ll see.

So, I’m bowing out now to continue resting it and finishing watching The Dirt on Netflix.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…

Salutations™!!

Once again, I was the featured writer for this week’s “Dinner Guest” column for “Triad City Bites” of the Triad City Beat magazine. I wrote a brief intro on The Man Who Ate the Town with a link to the story. To keep you from having to go through a plethora of links, I’m going to just connect you to the article itself.

Salutations™!!

Tonight on The Less Desirables, we played a tune from local guys, Suitcase. They are a1051221211_16releasing five songs in serial to make a collection called Don’t Shoot It’s Me. I have always loved these guys and I was excited that they released new music. I really dig Joe, Don and Travis. The first tune released is called “Matter of Time.”

You can hear the song on the podcast, which I certainly hope that you do but you can also hear it on their Bandcamp page. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t send you away from the podcast, but I really want this song heard. You can hear the song HERE and of course, you can hear the podcast HERE.

Asparagus, Food, The BCPF

Salutations™!!

Yesterday The BCPF tried to kill me!

That’s not true, of course. But, I like to make things a little dramatic. Not as in drama, but overplayed realness. But, what the heck am I talking about? 5YHhYM322d-12

Last night for dinner, she made a fantastic orange-sauced pork chop with brussels sprouts and this cauliflower risotto thing from a bag. It all tasted good. I didn’t care for the cauliflower stuff because, as we know, I’m not a fan of substitute food. I don’t mean using healthier alternatives as ingredients. I mean cauliflower as a grain substitute (in this instance).  I’m not the biggest fan of brussels sprouts, either, but I let that slide. I ate it all, including the cauliflower because I don’t like to complain about being fed.

It was “all good.” I watched my ‘rasslin’ and went about my business. I got up to the call of nature and there it was. That smell. What in the world!? That aspara-pee smell. Ugh.

There are few things I despise in this world more than that smell my pee takes on after eating asparagus, or as I call it, asparagross. The taste of asparagross isn’t awful, but it’s certainly not my favorite and when you add that horrible pee smell to it, it makes it just not worth eating. Sometimes asparagross is slimy. Sometimes it’s too tough. I just can’t get into it.

If I didn’t have aspara-pee I may eat more of it, but because I loathe that smell so much, it is off my radar. Chef Travis and his team try to work it in secretly and sit back and watch my reaction. That’s the only thing I won’t eat that he makes (according to my TLD shpiel).

Now, I will admit that I didn’t know the asparagross was in the cauliflower last night and, in her defense, neither did The BCPF. I couldn’t taste it, because there wasn’t a lot of flavor in the whole cauliflower risotto thing, to begin with. That, and we covered it with the orange glaze from the sauce on the main dish.

So, no, she didn’t try to kill me, and she didn’t deliberately set out to get me riled. It just happened. I will have to watch her sly self from now on, though. Make sure she doesn’t sneak any more of that vile, disgusting weed into my food again.

Until tomorrow, same asparagross free channel…

Paul McCartney, The Record Covers, Wings

Salutations™!!

Today is the 43rd anniversary of Paul McCartney & Wings’ Wings at the Speed of Sound album. It has a slew of great songs on it. Most people play this tune off as, well… “silly.” I like it, maybe in spite of that fact. I don’t know. But, here is a cover by a band called The Record Covers that do a pretty good rendition. The impressive part is this is the recording of their first rehearsal of the song. Enjoy!

Salutations™!!

It’s the end of the month and the end of the quarter. That means that funds are a bit tight. Our haul is very short this week, but we have a vast back catalog of recent arrivals that we went through. The sun was out, Underdog Records had their $1 albums outside, the day was great. Perhaps we’ll do some yard sitting today. I wish we could take the turntable out there. Oh well, Alexa will have to do. Here’s the haul:

  • Strand Of Oaks – Eraserland — In my never-ending quest to find music that will please The BCPF (and show that I pay attention), I usually come across good candidates when I’m doing the commercial for Underdog Records. This is one of those. It’s 2xLP clear vinyl and Side 4 is one long experiment which I don’t think I’d call a song, but those first three sides are great! New.
  • Vienna State Opera Orchestra, Paul Angerer – A Bouquet of Old Vienna Dances — $1 bin find. VG/VG+.
  • Various – The Romance of Italy — $1 bin find. VG.
  • The Dave Clark Five – The Dave Clark Five’s Greatest Hits — I bought this because of “Anyway You Want It” which KISS covered for the fourth side of Alive II. It’s a $1 bin find and it’s pretty beaten up. I won’t give it over G+.
  • Nat King Cole – This Is Nat “King” Cole — The BCPF found this in the $1 bin. It too is beaten up but not as bad as the DC5. VG/VG-.

That’s a short week. Jonathan will be at Gas Hill Drinking Room at the Ramkat this Thursday, 3/28 for BYOV. I really don’t know if there are themes every month, but this week, it’s 90’s Appreciation Day. Go by and take a few of your favorite 90s album and get in the queue, have a great beverage and enjoy the community that accompanies good vinyl listening parties. Speaking of listening, listen to each episode of The Less Desirables and hear what the TLD/UR special of the week is.

I use Discogs to catalog, track and sometimes choose what I’m going to listen to.

Until tomorrow, keep spinning…

Today is the 46th anniversary of Roxy Music’s second album For Your Pleasure. It is #394 on the RS list. This is Jack Hiko doing a cover of one of the album’s tunes. Watching him and his facial expressions are worth the watch if for nothing else. Enjoy!

Life, Life as It is, Records, vinyl

Salutations™!!

This is going to be super short. A friend of mine sent this to me and I posted it on my Instagram. It’s a great joke and isn’t anywhere near true, but it does make you wonder why people get into vinyl like we do. I’ll write up a good explanation at another time. Until then…
