Waking up to the Las Vegas massacre. Two attacks in the last few weeks in my favorite city, Paris. Attacks on police officers and civilians in Edmonton. One after the other after the other after the other.21199InFocus3

Gun control! Gun rights! Mental health issues! Trump! Racists! “Ungrateful and disrespectful millionaires!” Obamacare! Puerto Rico!

Insult after insult after insult after insult. I see it, hear it, read it. There should be a conversation about all of that and many other things. I agree with some of it, disagree with some of it. But, because we’re all in a fervor right now we can’t have any discussions. There’s no discourse, only division. Right or wrong we all have opinions about it and we’re all entitled to those opinions.

We have a problem in this country (and the world) that goes beyond voicing our own personal opinions. It’s compassion. It’s empathy. We’re all missing it. I’ll admit that I have a hard time with it although I don’t want to struggle. I want to make things better, but alas I’m but one person. Until everyone is willing to admit they have a problem with it, we can’t fix it. I don’t know how. I can’t begin to understand how. But, we’ve lost a lot of love for our fellow man, no matter what they believe, skin color, political beliefs, religious (or like me, the lack thereof) views and so on. I’m tired of the division.

Not one person can change the world, and I’m not trying to, really. I’m just imploring that you take time to think before saying, doing or being something that offends the daylights out of someone else and sets them off. We all need to also get a new fuse, preferably longer, and not blow up on everyone that disagrees with you or takes a knee during the anthem or likes a different sports team or what-the-heck-ever else. They’re doing the same thing you want to do. Expressing and exercising their First Amendment right to free expression and free speech.

If I change my profile pic to something that shows “solidarity” to some place, it’s not because I am a “hacktivist.” I’m not trying to gather people for a cause. I’m only expressing my thoughts going out to that place and the people involved. If you don’t like it, don’t look. But, just keep your mouth shut. I’ve had to learn to do that with a lot of the ignorance I see on social media and on television. People are hurting for many reasons and bickering and griping aren’t helping. Think about what they’re going through, just as you’d want them to be considerate of your feelings when it’s your turn to hurt… and it is always someone’s turn.

Stay classy World.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
