For the last good bit, The BCPF and I have been doing something different. Since football is over, we’ve been picking up 3B early on Sundays and going to open houses. We are looking to possibly move in the next several months but that’s pure speculation right now. A lot of contingencies to work through, first. But, it’s been cool. We are looking at houses we think we’ll be able to afford and looking at ones we know we can’t afford just to see how the 2017-03-05-20-35-32“other half” live.

In addition to that, we’ve also been doing family cooking on Sundays. All three of us, in the kitchen working on various styles of dishes and noshes. Last week it was chipotle-rubbed pork tacos with an avocado crema and peach salsa, all made in house (minus the tortillas). This week we went Asian. We did a Szechuan Shrimp dish served with broccoli with garlic butter and cashews. It was really, really good. We have a good time with it, too.

I teach 3B some knife skills (not that I’m any kind of expert), we get good discussions going, get him involved in the cooking process in hopes that he just likes to do it. I believe cooking can be therapeutic, fun, and a good skill to attract the ladies. Who knows, I could be raising the next Chef Travis Myers, Chef Tim Grandintetti, Chef John Bobby or Chef Mark Grohman. One can only hope. I just want him exposed to as much as possible. If he just loves food, I’m good with that. But, I try to educate him as much as possible in the ways of enjoying food, especially varying regional and world cuisines. It could be he just eats burgers and fries. That’s okay, but I want him to at least know what is out there. I also include some things that I don’t particularly like, because I don’t want to affect that at all from him. I want him to decide what he does or doesn’t like on his own without me influencing his tastes, likes or dislikes.

I need to do a post over at The Man Who Ate the Town about the tacos from last week and the Asian dish from this week. I will work on that this week. I’ll post our recipes and talk about them a bit. But, above all, I’ll recommend that if you have the opportunity to cook with your kids, no matter how old they are, I’d do it. It’s a great family builder. Happy cooking!
