City Beverage, the Official Beer Sponsor of The Less Desirables, presents The Less Desirables Beer of the Week, Baba Budan by Appalachian Mountain Brewery from Boone, NC. It’s actually a collaboration between Appalachian Mountain Brewery and Fonta Flora Brewery from Lincolnton, NC.
Spencer, of City Bev, said that it’s a good IPA and really heavy on the coffee. I’m hoping that the coffee tones down the hoppiness. It has a 50 IBU list so it will be somewhat hoppy. It’s 6.6% ABV, so it’s not too shabby.
I have had a few brews (three actually) from AMB and I’ve liked most of them. I’ve rated nothing lower than a 3.5 out of 5, if that means anything. I am a fan of coffee drinks so, here’s hoping it’s good. Untappd has it at 3.94 caps out of 5, but BeerAdvocate has no rating for it at all, although it does have an entry. There are 5 reviews and there, apparently, must be 10 to be officially rated. Have you had it before? What did you think? Or, if you have had it and just can’t get enough of it or you haven’t had it at all, you should run down to City Beverage and grab your quad. Tell them it’s the beer of the week and get 5% off your order. Then tune in to see how Caitlin, Michelle and I (and any guests that may show up) feel about it.
And, if you’re wondering, Baba Budan was an Indian man and the first to sneak coffee out of the Middle East to cultivate it for himself and it spread. Hence the name.
Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
“We took a West-coast style IPA and infused it with 80 lbs of locally roasted coffee from Espresso News in Boone.” – Appalachian Mountain Brewing’s description of Baba Budan.
