City Beverage, the Official Beer Sponsor of The Less Desirables, presents Lagunias Brewing Company‘s The Waldos’ Special Ale, The Less Desirables Beer of the Week.

Lagunitas is known for their hoppy beers. They’re known for their powerful beers. This is a special beer. This is a “highly” limited release. I’ll explain why that is both important and funny. This was their special release that happened on April 20. 4/20. Yes, that 4/20. The Waldos coined the term because, well, I’ll let Lagunitas tell you themselves:e9837347-598c-4cef-9310-7f2a351248ed

I’m copying this directly from the Lagunitas carton: “In 1971, the Waldos met one afternoon at 4:20 in the front courtyard of their school near the statue of Louis Pasteur. They set out in a ’66 Impala armed with a “treasure map” on a journey to find a secret garden near Point Reyes. They met there at the same time every day and continued their quest. They never found the secret garden….But they keep lookin’. The dankest and hoppiest beer ever brewed at Lagunitas was made with help of the Waldos for all treasure hunters.”

So you see, the Waldos were looking for something and never found it, but they found other things, I’m sure. I picked this because Spencer recommended it. I know what you’re thinking and I’ll be honest, I’m thinking it, too. Once I got back to the bunker, I realized this is still April. April is NC Beer Month. So, I’ll have to make sure that next week, even though it will be May, that I get an NC beer to make up for it.

It’s like an imperial IPA and Spencer said you may not even know what you’re doing if you have too many until, that is, you wake up on the floor. You see, it’s 11.5% ABV, which in my book makes everything alllllrrrrriiiiggggghhhhhtttttt!!!! I can’t wait to taste it. After last week when New Sarum rocked my world, I’ll make sure to go easy for the Small Batch lubrication session prior to the show. Spencer said it’s like a light barleywine. Woot!

BeerAdvocate has this at 90 (Outstanding) and a Bros Score of 95 (World Class). Untappd has it at 4.24 caps out of 5. Both (all three) are fantastic scores. Again, I can’t wait. Have you tasted it? If so, what did you think? If you want more or you’ve never had it, head on down to City Beverage and get your sixer. Tell ’em this is the beer of the week and get 5% off your order!

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
Scorp out!
