The Less Desirables Beer of the Week, brought to you by City Beverage, the Official Beer Sponsor of The Less Desirables, is Carolina Brewing Company’s Dark Crystal IPA.

Carolina Brewing is out of Holly Springs, NC and Dark Crystal is their winter seasonal IPA which is only available (or stocked) from January 1-March 1. So, if you want one, you best be gettin’ get whilst the gettin’s good! I don’t know much about this brew, which is 7.1% dcb35701-94c6-429d-ad7d-ca070d438ecfABV (nice!).According to CBC, the beer has a medium body and has nugget, cascade and crystal hops. The carton reads floral and spice, slight roast, pine and grapefruit. I am not supposed to have grapefruit and I wish I would have read that before I bought it, but I’m sure just one or two isn’t going to kill me. Update: according to The BCPF, it can, so I won’t be having any tonight and won’t be able to rate it. I didn’t notice it until I started writing this.

BeerAdvocate has no rating for it, I’m assuming because of the limited release. Untappd has it at 3.64 caps out of 5. If you’ve not tried it, run down to City Beverage before they’re out. Warning, though, if you’re on cholesterol lowering, blood pressure lowering or something to fight cancer, you’ll probably want to stay away from it. Listen to see what Caitlin and Bruce think about it.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
Scorp out!

“Crystal is the aroma addition and then used again to dry hop. The result lets the spice, herbal, fruit, and floral aroma and flavors shine through.” – CBC Website
