City Beverage, the Official Beer Sponsor of The Less Desirables, presents The Less Desirables Beer of the Week, Christmas Ale by Great Lakes Brewing Company.
This brew is one of the top new-classics as far as I’m concerned when it comes to Christmas and/or Winter brews. I know I rated it 4 out of 5 caps on Untappd when I had it in 2012. I’m sure I’ve had it since but didn’t register it on Untappd. Untappd, by the way rates this at 3.86 caps out of 5. BeerAdvocate rates it at 88 (Very Good) with no Bros score. And, yay! to 7.5% ABV! Rock it!
With some spices and honey and a somewhat dark color, this is a very special ale. According to Spencer, it’s always one of the biggest sellers at City Beverage. And even though I’ve had this before, as we’ve talked about before, the recipe – or at least the final product – is different from year to year and this is will be the first documented time I’ve had it in around 3 years, so I look forward to it. The carton reads that this pairs well with roast duck (what doesn’t), spiced desserts and ugly Christmas sweaters. Well, I’m sure we all have some of that coming, right? At least one of those things. Maybe you should shoot on down to 915 Burke Street and grab a sixer of this delicousness? Tell them you heard this is The Less Desirables Beer of the Week and get 5% off your purchase. Tune in late this evening or tomorrow to hear what Caitlin, Bruce, Tommy Priest and I think of it. Have you tried it? What do you think?
Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
