According to the carton (it’s a quad pack): “Pernicious implies influence that is harmful in a way not easily noticed. This beer is harmful, not because of overwhelming hop bitterness, but because its balanced brightness insidiously ruins your expectations for all other IPA’s. This hop delivery vehicle is crafted to enhoy fresh and often, and because of its drinkability and clean finish, you’ll never look at other IPA’s the same again. The harm is done.”
I usually don’t do a lot of carton text (other than my quote at the bottom), but this was a great description. I’ve never had it so, even though it’s an IPA, I do look forward to trying it. It’s a whopping 7.3% ABV and that’s awesome! The only beer from Wicked Weed that I can tell that I have had, meaning I put it in my Untappd, was the Freak of Nature. I must have liked it, I gave it 4 caps out of 5 and my caption was “Oh yes!” So, that adds to the anticipation of having Pernicious.
On their website, Wicked Weed states (and Spencer from City Beverage confirmed it): Pernicious is our flagship India Pale Ale boasting a silver medal at this year’s Great American Beer Festival. This massively dry-hopped ale has minimum malt complexity and a combination of juicy, tropical fruit-forward hops with heavy resinous American hops. Pernicious is the epitome of a West Coast IPA, made right here in the Southeast. They’re out of Asheville.
BeerAdvocate has this rated at 95 (World Class) and no Bros score. That’s awesome! Untappd comes in at 4.12 caps out of 5. Wow! Have you had this before? Let us know what you think. If you’ve not, scoot down to 915 Burke Street and get your own four-pack and tell Spencer that you heard this is the Beer of the Week and get 5% off your purchase. Also, City Beverage is doing a huge New Belgium tasting this evening (Wednesday) so make sure you go by there and get some!!!!!!
Tune in later this evening or tomorrow to hear what Caitlin, Bruce, Matt Troy (maybe Meghan Parsons) and I think of this beer. Also, I apologize for the darkness of the photo, this is one of the darkest cartons I’ve seen and it would have washed out the TLD shield completely if I lightened it any more.
So until tomorrow, same blog channel…
