Yesterday was a very long and busy day. I was asked on Tuesday, by Matt Clark, of the More… with Matt Clark Show on 600 WSJS, to host his show while he was on assignment and I agreed. Well, that was going to be a Wednesday and if anyone knows my Wednesday, it’s already long; and busy.
The big thing is The Less Desirables. Not only do I record the show but I have to prep for it, collecting data for the info we report on, getting the song of the week (presented by The Garage, the Official Music Sponsor of The Less Desirables), writing my review of The Less Desirables Movie of the Week (presented by a/perture Cinema, the Official Movie Sponsor of The Less Desirables), get The Less Desirables Beer of the Week (presented by City Beverage, the Official Beer Sponsor of The Less Desirables) and put them all in order and get the data, songs and clips loaded into the computer and where applicable, into the “cart” system. I write the movie review in the morning and I did that around 8am (usually do it around 10:30a or so). I even did my shower before that and I’m generally lazy about that on Wednesdays.
Then I did the research for the topics I talked about on 600 WSJS, which was a little time consuming because I wanted quality material and not just fluff. I worked on that from around 8:45a to around noon; yeah a long time, really. Well, it was more than gathering, I wrote many show notes and facts so that I didn’t sound stupid or trying to sling talk from the cuff. I like to sound like I know what I’m talking about. I then went by City Beverage and picked up the beer of the week and then go back, get the pic and write a blog post about it. Then I put the lists together for The Less Desirables. Luckily, I got a chance to grab some grub from the new Local 27101 restaurant.
I went to 600 WSJS and I feel that Eugene and I had a great show. It was, at least to me, entertaining and fun. We had about six phone calls and that’s a great thing. Eug says that calls aren’t usually abundant with guest hosts. We talked about Yvonne Craig, Batgirl from television’s Batman. Idaho removing Mile Marker 420, TigerMania, tattoos and beer (you know Eug and I have to talk about beer). In the past, I always recruited Camel City Dispatch‘s Chad Nance to accompany me and talk about community stuff, but this time I decided I wanted to go it alone. Again, I think I did a decent job. I think it helps that Eug and I have the rapport that we have with each other (after all, we’ve been together for almost 20 years). We always feed off each others’ conversational directions, even on The Less Desirables. Now the caveat there is that we never know in which direction it will go in. On the radio, we have to be clean. On The Less Desirables, not so much. But, again, I think we did a good job. Not tooting horns just giving my opinion.
So I got out of there around 6:30p and made it to the studio in time to get a sandwich from Washington Perk & Provision Co., the presenting sponsor of Tart & Tangy Triad, and get everything cranked for The Less Desirables. Enter Doug Davis and the result: a really good TLD. We even had a return of Ty Collins from Fan Interference to do a TLD Sports Report. After the show, I had to do the post-production on the show and also had to write the RSS feed (the thing that allows your iTunes and Stitcher to download the new shows), not only for TLD but for The Beer Dads Podcast, as well. I also had to do “post” on one of The Beer Dads upcoming shows. So, in editing all the shows, uploading them to the server, writing RSS, editing the website, I was there late. I got home around 10:45p or so.
And the thing is, I’d do that every single day. When I’m that busy, I have the best of days. There was a sense of urgency in the morning to make sure I had all that I normally do, combined with the commitment I had made for this day in particular, I felt really good about my day. From 8a until 11p, that’s a 15 hour day. Sounds like a good day to me! Many thanks to Matt Clark for allowing me to fill in for him and many thanks, also, to Eugene for making me sound good. You can listen to More… with Matt Clark every week day from 3-6p. Also, sorry, not sorry about all the plugs for the sponsors and the other The Less Desirables Network shows (I got all five in there). It doesn’t happen all the time.
Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
