The Less Desirables Beer of the Week, brought to you by City Beverage, the Official Beer Sponsor of The Less Desirables, is Habanero Sculpin IPA by Ballast Point Brewing Company. Ballast point is located in San Diego, CA.
We’ve had a few beers from Ballast Point before but I don’t think we’ve had anything like this. We’re sucking down 7% ABV of IPA. Yeah, another IPA but this one is different than anything we’ve had on the show, at least in a while, if not ever. It’s supposed to be quite the spicy something. I like spicy so we’ll see how this one goes down. Perhaps the spice will knock down a bit of the IPA part? We’ll see.
It’s 7% ABV, as I mentioned, which is a great start. It sets with a rating of 85 on BeerAdvocate and that’s in the “very good” range. Nothing from the “bros,” but I’m sure that will change. Untappd has it rated at 3.81 Caps. I love spicy things as long as it’s for spice and not melting your taste buds. That’s never fun for me.
Have you had it before? If not, perhaps you can grab a sixer from City Beverage, located 915 Burke Street and listen to this week’s show to see what Caitlin, Eug, the NC Cuddles ladies and myself think of this brew. What did you think? Have a beer recommendation for us? Hit us up!
Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
“Our Sculpin IPA with Habanero Pepper began as a crazy experiment that’s taken on a life of its own. While its bright fruit notes and hoppy bite has made the original one of our favorites, this version takes that balance of flavors to the next level with the citrusy, floral heat of habaneros. Sculpin are known to sting, but this one’s got a kick.” – Ballast Point webpage for Habanero Sculpin
