Salutations™!!

So, what boring thing do you have going on tonight? I know something that could liven that up a bit. That thing is called the Vagabond Saints Society. What is that? I know I’ve talked about them before, the last time being about their XTC Skylarking album. The VSS is a “society” that gets together and performs themed shows; a core band with revolving guest singers and performers.

The Summer shows are always the pièce de résistance for the year, the top draw, the big one. Last summer was Hall & Oates. This summer, it’s probably one of, if not the top requested show for VSS, ever. This summer, it’s Bruce Springsteen. There are a remarkable amount of Springsteen fans in this area and I know a few that are at almost every VSS show and have been screaming for this show for years. Well, they get it. And really, they are going to get a great show.

Whilst the VSS generally have open calls for guest singers, this time they’re doing it invitation only. These are the crème de la crème of the singers around the area. These singers are Patrick Ferguson from Vel Indica, Clay Howard, Jeffrey Dean Foster, Darrell Hoots from Knuckles Deep, Richard Boyd from Bo Stevens. Doug Davis and Jerry Chapman will sing something (they’re part of the core band). And, somehow, they’re allowing me to sing a few songs as well. So it’s crème de la crème plus me. I’ll take it.

I’m not going to tell you the songs that everyone is singing but I’ll give you a hint of some of the songs being played tonight. There’s 26 songs total and each of the guest singers are singing 4 each. So the skimming of the song list is as follows: “I’m on Fire,” “Thunder Road,” “She’s the One,” “Born in the USA,” “Spirit in the Night,” “If I Should Fall Behind,” “10th Ave Freeze Out,” “Adam Raised a Cain,” “Dancing in the Dark,” “Born to Run,” ” and since the name of the show is “Because the Night: VSS presents Bruce Springsteen,” well, “Because the Night” is one as well. If you’re a fan of a popular BS song, then chances are you’ll hear your song. If you like the deep cuts, there may be some of those in abundance, too. It’s a true collection of deep and pop cuts.

Tonight’s show is at The Garage, the Official Music Sponsor of The Less Desirables. The show will start around 9 or so, and this will sell out fast so if you’re coming, you need to get there early. But, if you miss this one, you’ll have three other chances. The next show is at RayLen Vineyards on Saturday, August 1. Summer on Trade is Saturday, August 22. Carolina Sky Festival is Sunday, August 30. So, there’s plenty of Bruce to go around. The Garage is my favorite of those venues, though. Something about being on stage there that is always awesome. Come on out and see a great night of well-crafted and spectacularly-executed music.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
Scorp out!

“Take me now, baby here as I am. Hold me close and try and understand. Desire’s a hunger is the fire I breathe. Love is a banquet from which we feed.” – “Because the Night” (Springsteen)
