The Less Desirables Beer of the Week, brought to you by City Beverage, the Official Beer Sponsor of The Less Desirables is Dark Cloud Munich-Style Dunkel Lager from Mother Earth Brewing.

We’ve had several brews from Mother Earth on The Less Desirables before but, surprisingly, we’ve not had this one. I’ve had it out and about but not on the show. I love dunkels or “dark lagers.” I try to have them any time I can. Dark, yes, but not heavy like you’d think a porter or stout would be. And Mother Earth? I’m not going to say they can’t do wrong, but I’m going to say it’s hard for them to. I am looking forwardunnamed (1) to this Kinston-based beauty.

It’s no longer available on The Less Desirables website, but there was a time in November, 2011 that the owner, Stephen Hill came through on the way to Asheville and let us taste Silent Night before it was even released in the brew pub. It was a great beer and a great interview. I loved the interview and beer. I like Mother Earth.

This beer is 5.1% alcohol so it’s light yet satisfying brew. Beer Advocate’s BA score is 87% and the “Bros” rating is 94%. Have you had Dark Cloud? What do you think of it? Listen in late tonight or tomorrow to see how Eugene, Caitlin, Tony Dagnall, Amanda Sullivan and I feel about the beer. Go to City Beverage and tell them you want The Less Desirables Beer of the Week and you may get something for it.

Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
Scorp out!

“I like to describe our Munich Dunkel as a mild lager that just happens to be dark. It drinks incredibly smooth with a malty finish.” – Mother Earth Website
