When I went to City Beverage, the Official Beer Sponsor of The Less Desirables, the carton for this beer just jumped out at me. This, Dear Reader, is the Birthday Beer Chocolate Stout from Shiner (Spoetzl Brewery) and it’s the The Less Desirables Beer of the Week. I mean it’s a chocolate stout! I don’t care if the weather is warming up or not, I don’t go for the light, crisp and refreshing just because of that. I go for taste, no matter the season. Now, the last thing I remember having from Shiner was the RubyRed Bird. I don’t think I rated it over 3 and I remember when Shiner Bock came out in this area 10-15 years ago, I thought it was good because I hadn’t drunk anything like it. I’ve not had that in a while. Don’t know how I’d like it now that my tastes have changed. But, I usually like Chocolate Stouts and tonight could be a good one. It’s supposed to taste kind of like chocolate birthday cake. We’ll see!
So, we’re going to find out if I like this one or not. And if you’ve tried it, I want to hear what you think. You can listen to The Less Desirables by streaming it from the website, iTunes or using Stitcher. Tonight, along with Eugene and myself, you’ll hear from Philip Pledger (of Estrangers and Phuzz Phest) and, with a special appearance, “Superfan” Damien! Drop us a line, let us know your thoughts and your tastes! Enjoy.
Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
