I’ve mentioned Tart & Tangy Triad, the “Food News & Views” show that I produce and co-host on The Less Desirables Network a couple of times. And we’ve been toying with and tweaking a sponsors’ rate sheet for all the shows.
I am happy to announce that Tart & Tangy Triad has a new sponsor in a great establishment that is near & dear, not only to my heart, but to my belly, as well! Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I am pleased to introduce to you… Washington Perk & Provision Company! Ta-Da!!!!! The Johnstons brought their unique little neighborhood grocery and deli to the Washington Park area (228 West Acadia Avenue) in 2010, to great success and have now filled that need in downtown Winston-Salem at 301 W 4th Street. This area is what we like to call “Our Little Block of Awesome” because there are a lot of great merchants and services in this little narrow passageway.
What can you get at Washington Perk? Well, there’s a bit of everything. I know that’s generalist but it’s true. They have beer (YES BEER!) and I mean an extensive selection, dairy products from Homeland Creamery, meats, vegetables, chips, provisional items like napkins, plasticware and other household items, canned goods and organic foods. They also acquired Wolfie’s Custard and sell it in the downtown location. They may sell it at the Acadia location, but I’m not sure. They have a coffee bar that sells Larry’s Beans, a local roaster and they can make you just about any coffee drink you want. In the mornings they have biscuits: chicken, sausage, sausage+egg+cheese, etc.
One of the best parts is the deli. They make some of their own ingredients for their sandwiches and fixings. They have everything from hot dogs to chicken salad (curry or regular) to meatball subs to chicken sandwiches, etc. You can custom build your own sandwich or salad and they have slips that allow you to tell them how that is.
They have weekday specials, too:
- Mon: Meatball Subs
- Tue: 2 for $2.22 Hot Dogs
- Wed: Curry Chicken Salad Sandwich
- Thu: Breaded Chicken Sandwich (which rivals a certain “we did it first” chain) OR Meatloaf Sandwich
- Fri: Philly Steak
Bottom line, Washington Perk & Provision Company, either location, is a great place to get what you need. No, you won’t find a full-on grocery store. And, no, it’s not a cheesy convenience store. It’s a “you get what you need” store. Check them out, and tell them that I or Tart & Tangy Triad sent you!
Until tomorrow, same blog channel…
